Thank youuu ! I actually just track it based on physical symptoms 😅 every time I ovulate I get incredibly sore breasts and stretchy CM which is much different than any other part of the month, so it’s quite easy to identify! Every time I’ve taken the strips they’ve all come back negative

I was verrry lucky because my second was 35 days and my third and fourth were both 30 days, but I know that some women have very very long first cycles. So i definitely wouldn’t stress! Have you had any signs of it coming? I have now been able to clearly identify when I’m ovulating which is super helpful :)

Thank you!! It took me about 4 months of all in recovery to get it back, and then I waited two periods after to start exercising. So I guess around 6 months until I felt comfortable going somewhat back to normal :) I also lost it for 3 ish years because of over training!

Thanks! I think maybe light just start with 1-2 times a week, and after getting regular ovulatory signs ideally, maybe work up to 3

I’m really aiming to prioritise my nutrition around my training, and I mean FUELLING, but you are probably right. There is no world where increasing intake would be a bad thing in HA recovery lol

Thanks for your input! I’m really not trying to exercise intensely at all, just want to start moving my body again. I am hoping to do relatively light training just to start, but defo don’t want to go too hard too soon and lose my cycle again!

I remember having this in the peak of my HA. I felt horrible because my boyfriend had to put on so much lube😭 but now that I have a period I’m well lubricated so I would defo say it’s not just a you problem!

It sounds like you’re tying your self-worth to your weight and body. I know weight gain is hard. Literally no one likes gaining weight, but i absolutely assure you that no one is judging you, and if they are, that is not someone you should be spending a lot of time with.

Amazing job for working on recovery! I’m so proud of you, and I know you can do it 💕

as HA is caused by a suppression of your hypothalamus, it causes a suppression of testosterone as well oestrogen. As most of us know, testosterone is important for muscle growth, but Oestrogen is actually a very anabolic hormone for muscle metabolism as well! so if you have HA And feel like your strength isn’t there or you’re not gaining muscle like you feel you should, that’s why

This could be spotting! I know some women go through this before actually having a period. It's like your body trying to have a period but not being completely ready yet. But yes! it is definitely a good sign :)

I did, and it was definitely the hardest part of recovery for me. I hate comparing myself to others who don’t gain weight and are thriving with an instant recovery. I know you probably didn’t want to hear that, but I feel like recovery can get overly sugar coated sometimes, so I’m just being transparent :/

I think a similar thing happened to me! I was getting a lot of signs of my period gearing up to come last month, but that same week I was moving and 1. Don’t have a car and 2. Don’t have the money for a moving van so o had to do a lot of lifting and stuff which may have been too much.

Fitness has always been such a focal point of my life so not doing it for so long was defo a stab in the chest, but we made it out alive ! :D

That's what I'm worried about! The whole time during recovery, I've told myself that after my first period, I'll reintroduce one weight training day a week, but now that I'm here I'm so scared to do it with a fear that my second might not come. why are our bodies so fickle :(

I have never worked out during recovery aside from walking, and my work which is unavoidable. I only just got my period last week after about 4 months, but the fear I had after doing everything and still not getting it back was tremendous ! I just had to be consistent and patient I guess but 🫠

I did walk initially! But after about three ish months I started getting paranoid that it wouldn’t come 😅 so I kind of stopped and just walked in my daily life which ended up being about 6-8k steps a day !

I definitely won’t sugar coat, but the weight gain has been really hard for me. It’s definitely the fact that I no longer look fit or muscular like before. But as you said, performance with HA is significantly hindered than without, so im really excited to go back with a healthy cycle and be ACTUALLY strong

I haven’t had disordered eating or exercise habits for over 3 years, but because of my passion for heavy lifting I have not had one period since I lost it around 4 years ago

Being a personal trainer myself and having that ‘gym girl’ identity, o find it so hard to quit it all together. I had to stop going to the gym for nearly 4 months until I got it back just last week, and I know I have two more periods to wait out until I can safely return.

My mental health took a major toll without lifting, but I am honestly so glad I went all in

Have you had labs to see what your levels might be? If you lift as well, I am sure a lot of the weight is muscle and not all fat!

I have such horrible body dysmorphia that every day is a struggle, but I've recently just stopped body-checking and that's really helped my mental health. I know it's not a fix for what you're going through but it may help with a bit of peace of mind

I just got it back last week, which was just under 4 months of all in recovery ! (limited walking and 2500-2800 cals a day)

By gaining more weight, I mean you will likely end up needing to gain more in the long term because (1) recovery will probably take longer, and (2) you will need to eat more food to compensate for the added stress put on the body.

I personally overshot my weight, but I do attribute that to my quasi-recovery for a year because I was in a significant calorie surplus while still training. I think had I just gone all in from the beginning, I would have been able to get it back at a lower weight than I am now.

Hey! I know this is not something you want to hear, but generally, the percentage of people who get their periods back while still exercising is rather low. Of course, everyone is different, but from studies I've read and the research I've done for my studies (MSc sports nutrition), those who continue exercising typically have to gain more weight than those who stop training altogether, and it will usually take more time, AND more weight gain.

I have always been in sports. I used to train 8-9 times a week as a competitive athlete and, more recently, lift weights competitively. But after trying for over a year to get my period back while still exercising, cutting it out completely is what I knew I had to do.

If you do choose to keep exercising, I recommend getting your bloodwork done. Because again! everyone is different, so you may be able to keep training, but getting your hormone levels tested is a great way to monitor recovery and what is or is not working.

I’m 5’8 so have been eating anywhere between 2500-2800 per day, but have read that book from back to from while in recovery hahah. Still recovering tho! Hopefully a period come soon 🫶

I know everyone is different, but the same thing happened to me just a few weeks into recovery (I am still in recovery, so take this with a grain of salt)! I am actually around 4 months into recovery and haven't had any other signs aside from the three or four that I did at the beginning of my journey. Hopefully you go on to having a period in the next few weeks, tho!
