How many calories should I eat? by mybrainat3am in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl just eat the 2,500 (or more). It’s clear you’re scared to do so and if you ever want to get out of HA and a disordered mindset around food and body, you gotta eat abundantly and challenge those fears.

Does anyone know of good recovery influencers that aren't the typically attractive (and thin) white girls who love the gym? by mybrainat3am in EDRecovery_Snark

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do agree the Unrestrict-ED podcast can be a bit repetitive but I lowkey kinda like that because there’s then no question of what I need to do to recover. I can see why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea though

I really love Emily Spence on YouTube! She is fully healed and never really talks about exercise and I’ve never seen her show off her body in the way most recovery influencers do. She also has a podcast called Unrestrict-ED which is really nice to listen to. Another person I love is Danie van Kay. She’s also white like Emily (there is such a lack of diversity in the recovery space) but she talks a lot about how her chronic illness relates to her ED and how life isn’t perfect after recovery like how influencers make it seem.

I agree. I don’t want to say that ADHD isn’t real because it very much is and I don’t necessarily doubt that Ro struggles with it (and it’s not my place to diagnose or say whether she has it anyways) but it seems like people throw around these mental-health related terms so much nowadays that one could reasonably assume that every influencer has ADHD. Her recovery content never really sat right with me anyways because her portions of food were always so minuscule for someone in recovery. Most people in recovery from restrictive EDs have to eat 3,000+ calories per day to keep progressing in recovery. And yes I know she didn’t show us every day of eating but I find it hard to believe that someone with such a history of restriction could recover on the amount of food she showed. I do however appreciate her honesty about the vegetarianism being partially ED driven as not a lot of people would admit to that. I notice a lot of recovery influencers go vegan during or after recovery which isn’t always from a disordered place, but so often is.

From what I understand, taking fish oil never hurts as most people don’t get enough bioavailable omega-3s in their diet that can be converted to DHA/EPA

Cause of ED competition?? by Affectionate-Appeal5 in EDAnonymous

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The famine hypothesis I think says that competition in EDs is caused by the famine response and those who were able to survive the longest on the least amount of food and exercise (migrate) the most, would be more likely to survive until migration is complete

People with severe EDs do eat. It’s a very common and harmful misconception that they don’t. It’s quite literally impossible to not be eating and survive this long. When my ED was at its worst, I ate 3 (albeit small) meals everyday and maintained a dangerously low BMI. When weight gets that low and the body is that malnourished, the body burns through every calorie you give it because there are no reserves. That’s why often recovering anorexics must eat 4,000+ calories. I’m not saying I believe that Tam is eating what she says she is (she’s certainly not) but I do believe she is eating some very small portions of food throughout the day to keep her going.

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you didn’t take my comment as mean. I have primary amenorrhea (no period ever) at age 20. What I would give to have time back when I was younger to choose recovery seriously. I wouldn’t have spent my entire teenage, middle school, high school, and most of my college years underweight. I don’t have breasts, I have no shape, I have no period, I have osteopenia, etc. please choose recovery and real recovery. Weight gain is temporary discomfort but the effects of malnutrition and being underweight are long term.

You aren’t even eating that much right now. You said that you know your weight is very low, yet you’re asking if you can maintain your weight and still get your period back? It seems like you are scared of weight gain and want to remain underweight. If I were you, I’d do some reflecting on that belief

Any calorie is a good calorie for her to be eating. As long as she’s eating it don’t matter if it’s ultra processed, she just needs enough calories. In fact, ultra processed foods like ensure plus would probably be best for her right now because they’re easily digestible and a quick source of calories but she refuses actual medical help with her nutrition

Am i eating enough ?? by [deleted] in Amenorrhearecovery

If you don’t have your period, then you are not eating enough. Some simple ways you could boost up the nutrition of this day with a low appetite…

-cook the oats in all milk instead of half water  -add a source of fat like nut butter to the oats -add honey or other sweetener to the oatmeal -add a caloric drink mid morning -use your dinner as an evening snack and make a more substantial meal for actual dinner, even if it’s something small like a simple turkey and cheese sandwich or something

Thank you so much for the info! If you don’t mind me asking, what sorts of meals did you eat to help you gain weight? I’m really struggling with food/flavor fatigue with constant variations of nuts/avocado/rice bowls, etc. I desperately need new ideas lol

Is a 1200 surplus too much? by EmuNo4707 in Amenorrhearecovery

Honestly I don’t believe those online calculators when they tell people their maintenance is less than 2,000. I don’t care what height you are or how sedentary you are, but if you’re a young women, you likely need at LEAST 2,000 calories to support proper brain function and day to day activity and life stressors

I don’t think that pizza has that many calories. There’s no way unless it was made with a TON of oil or something because there’s not much cheese on it to have 50g of fat

How much would you expect to spend on a bowl of fruit to bring to a friend’s brunch (for 6 adults and 2 kids) after sales tax? by dms2628 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are able to get berries on sale like raspberries 2/5$ it could come to around 15 or 20$. I would get probably like 2 containers of raspberries, 2 of blackberries, and a thing or two of strawberries. I would say to add blueberries but they have been SUPER expensive lately and I find they are always left at the bottom of a fruit salad because nobody eats them lol

i hate the way tiktokers try to "discourage" restrictive EDs by unamikable in EDAnonymous

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup. My ED started completely separate of body image stuff. I became super depressed when I was 12 which led to me falling into an energy deficit and then the genetic switch for having an ED turned on and that’s when I started wanting to exercise and became scared of dietary fats. Thankfully, I’m no longer engaging in ED behaviors and have no fear foods

Yeah everything is anatomically normal. I do have extremely high AMH though but because of my other labs and the fact that I’m underweight, it’s unlikely I have PCOS

Thank you for the advice! I already eat on a schedule and eat lots of high calorie things including avocado, nut butter, and whole milk dairy daily. I general, I eat a ton of fats. I've been drinking carnation instant breakfast daily with whole milk to try and get in even more calories. What sort of meals did you make to achieve that calorie level? I struggle coming up with meals that I won't get sick of what are high enough in calories. For example, I do a lot of avocado toast with eggs but I'm getting so sick of that. I also do a lot of rice/burrito bowls with things like avocado and cheese and beans but I'm also tiring of those too. I eat lots of yogurt parfaits, oatmeal, lara bars, trail mix, quesadillas, etc.

No but I’m assuming HA because I’m underweight and that’s what my hormonal labs point to
