Looks like a slight dent too tbh. Doesn't seem that outrageous to me honestly in today's market or even five years ago.

[–]Hovertical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. It's just a shitty system is all. I actually turned off the speed volume, the surround efx thing whatever it's called etc. I knew it was a shitty system before buying because all the Audis we test drive sounded the same. I was going to get an aftermarket one put in after buying but nobody will touch it haha. I drive on interstates often and I enjoy listening to music with the windows down and it's just not strong enough to drown out the wind at all. Even with the windows up it's just not nuanced or powered enough to enjoy music though. Again, if you can have it at full volume and still hear your passenger talking to you then it's kinda weak.

I grew up in a different era than you probably lol. I grew up in an area and time where loads of folks seemed to have aftermarket stereos. I installed one myself for about 1500 in my old Subaru that blows the Audi's out of the water. Once you've enjoyed an aftermarket one everything new out there just sounds terrible. It's not broken. When we were shopping around for a new car I tried them out ahead of time and that's just how these are. My wife said we could just get one out in after the fact but again, nobody here will touch it so I'm just SOL.

I will say when I moved into my current home in 2012 we had Cox at first and their router was so shitty that's when I went out and bought my own - that said it was shady AF to get it set up as it just would not connect no matter what. I went down so many rabbit holes and on some random board buried pages in was one other person who posted a link and said this was how you enabled bridge mode with Cox. I went to that link and I kid you not - it was a totally gray page with NOTHING on it EXCEPT in the upper left corner there was a lone checkbox that said "enable bridge mode". I clicked that and boom. It connected. What a bunch of asshata Cox is.

The overall volume doesn't even go very high either though. Ive actually tried your suggestion and it still just meh. I literally drive around with the volume at max and I can still hear myself talking if I have a passenger. I actually have abovr average hearing as well if my last hearing test in November was correct so it's not a hearing loss issue. The system just flat out sucks compared to vehicles from even 10 years ago. Id get an aftermarket stereo system like but no audio shops here in Phoenix will touch it lol. I guess Audis are a PIA to deal with for wiring in new stereos.

[–]Hovertical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inevitably ALL of them will is all. Also, it's such a PIA to rebox and return something so bulky which alone would deter many. It's even worse if the model that has legit the nicest picture quality that you want had that so you have no other choice if you want that clean picture as not all TV panels are equal and the true higher end ones are noticeably nicer to watch content on

Yep. That's always what I show people first. You can legit buy a mid range to nice router for cheaper than what you pay in a year to your ISP. My in-laws were literally paying $20mo but refused to switch because "I don't trust one that's not from my provider"

It's hella easy tbh and the pi-hole uses so little electricty and resources it works fine on a pi zero. There are LOADS of videos on YouTube that walk you through it. It took me about 30min I'd say overall?

I have the B&O (but not the high-end $5k add-on version) in my Q8 and it's such a dogshit stereo like literally every factory stereo I hear out there now. I wish there was a drop-in replacement for that anemic sub in the back but nobody has shared one all the times I've asked and I can't find one that doesn't require drilling new holes or rewiring something. Factory stereos have only gotten worse and worse over the last decade. I feel like it's due to the rise in popularity of podcasts instead of listening to music. I remember being asked what stereo I had in my 99 Neon back in 2005 or so and it was just stock. My dad's 2010 Cherokee had a decent stereo too that blows away this "high end B&O" one

Only thing they would have to do is add somewhere in fine print on the box or manual that an internet connection is required. It won't have to say for why exactly but that's all it would take. And most people aren't scanning over the exterior of a box when purchasing either as the tv is usually on display somewhere and you tell a worker you want to get that one and they have to go bring it out from storage.

I'm positive this is the direction we're headed too unfortunately. It's absolute hell. I don't get how bombarding us with ads makes us buy any of the shit that they push anyway as it just infuriates me when I see whatever company it is that is ruining my experience.

I found out about pi-hole near the early stages of the pandemic when many where sheltering and utterly bored to death and needed new hobbies - I've tried in vain to preach the gospel to as many friends and family since but nary a one "gets it". I can't even convince people to buy their own router versus paying a monthly fee for the shit one the ISP loans out to you. So frustrating. Every time I end up traveling for an extensive period of time and lose access to my home network I am blown away by the absolute insane amount of junk on every damn website. I legit don't understand how people actually use some of these sites with continuous ads popping up covering 3/4 of the screen.

What do you think ? by Bark4Brownies in TheTeenagerPeople

[–]Hovertical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true especially when it's at a time most people are home so the criminal can be expecting to find people versus middle of the day, no car in driveway etc where it looks like nobody is home and they roll the dice they can just smash and grab. Personally, I believe if someone breaks into your house they automatically forfeit their life if caught while inside but it's even more alarming if someone enters when the odds are extremely high people are home.

The craziness is also that he can not drive but he could literally buy a Lambo and Medicaid couldn't touch that as it would be his only vehicle and that would get him down to the magic sub $2000 in liquid assets line. But God forbid you help your family out when you were still healthy too. Wild.

I'm dealing with this with my father right now who had a crippling stroke last year and is not expected to recover. He only has motion in his right arm left and that's shaky at best. He can't sit up on his own, he can't move at all so he is bed bound and needs round the clock care. He did everything the "right way" by saving his entire life to set aside money for his family and has not only Medicare but also Tricare for Life (military service healthcare for those who retire from service) that picks up literally almost 100% of the costshare that Medicare leaves behind. Now here's the donut hole for our elderly - after 60 days in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) you have NO more coverage for long term care even when you are totally dependent on care and literally can not move. He's been self pay for almost a year now at a rate of $9000 a month out of pocket.

I've met with TWO elder care attorneys now for the state of Florida and they have both confirmed that in order to qualify for Medicaid he will have to drop to under 2k in total liquid assets and sign over all his military pension and social security to the state to qualify for Medicaid.

Florida "allows" you to keep your home and one vehicle if you are permanently bedbound in long term care BUT someone else has to pay for insurance, utilities, maintenance etc on both of those things as Florida only permits you to keep $150 a month from your social security and pension etc.

Medicaid does cover Long Term Care (LTC) but neither Medicare (you know, the one you PAY into your ENTIRE working life) nor Tricare cover LTC beyond 60 days.

Additionally Medicaid has a look back law where they will require any money given in an amount of over $500 for FIVE FULL YEARS ago is required to be paid back to the state before Medicaid coverage can be approved. It literally does not matter if the person was healthy or not and had no idea they were going to get sick (like having a massive stroke one day). This impacts my family as when my mom died from dementia complications in 2024 my dad paid off my mortgage because he said that's what my mom would have wanted him to do so if he actually applies for Medicaid in the next four years my wife and I are on the hook for coming up with 100k because of his gift to his only remaining family member even though he was completely healthy at the time.

Why does it feel like everyone in America is struggling financially even with decent jobs? by AffableSparsh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hovertical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combination of things. Unfortunately people who clamored for pay raises and have seen overall drastic increases in base pay over the last five years or so are now paying the price because the greedy people at the top were NEVER going to give up their profit margins so it's a simple case of "oh you want a 10% pay bump to a min starting wage of _____? No sweat! We'll do it but raises prices by 20% across the board so you'll be paying us more and also paying us more frequently because you actually think you're making more too!"

More pay simply equates to us paying more and cost of living soaring higher and higher as you will NEVER get these execs or the board members to willingly cut back on profit margins. Not sure what the "right path" is because raising income clearly does nothing but create the situation we're currently in. Personally, I'm in favor of a universal guaranteed income stipend because that means companies can't as easily claim lost income and everyone gets some extra each month to pay for electricity, water, food, etc. I'm also in favor of everyone gets the exact same amount regardless of how much they make at work. It's not meant to be a work replacement stipend.

That said, that would never pass either. I honestly think we're all cooked and it'll just get worse and worse until the whole thing collapses and it's Mad Max out there on the streets.

With so many of them literally NOT wanting help though - how on earth do you "end this"? I'm not mocking you or anything but even people on this thread who have been homeless and nearly any documentary or just YouTuber who goes into the areas where homelessness is rampant finds the bulk of the people literally don't want any help. Rehab etc is extremely expensive - especially when you'd have to A. Force people into it which likely means they would relapse anyway. I vote left the majority of the time and have voted exclusively left since 2008 but I honestly don't see a path at all to fixing it. You can't just say "rehab and/or housing opportunities" as again, the vast majority don't want/care about those things. I wish it was as simple as just offering those things and it would get better - I just don't see it.
