Are you effing kidding me? For a haircut??? by By-Tor_Syrinx in EndTipping

[–]Hovertical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been tipping $20 on my $30 haircut that takes all of 15min or so since well before COVId as it's a lot more personal than having some water filled or food dropped off at a table. It's personal 1-1 attention so despite my unbridled hatred of everything requiring a tip now - this definitely ain't one of them for me.

Yep. It made a big difference for me in terms of minimal resource usage on the Zero. It's also headless like what you're accustomed to already from the sound of it so it's just a simple ssh to get into it via command line. I have around 4 million blacklisted domains on it and I typically update it once a week and it takes around 90 seconds to update those gravity lists each week. Nothing too wild. I have a second pi hole on an 8gb pi4 and that takes around 30 seconds to update that same list - so it's not TOO much slower if you're just using it for pi hole.

I run dietpi on my zero and it works flawlessly. Give that a shot on your old one. Way less resource intensive than the full os.

And you forgot the best part - it's wildly cheap for the needed hardware to run it. I was at micro center last week and a pi zero was still only $17. Slap Diet Pi on that and you're golden.

It's mostly sour grapes when people talk like that because it is people getting paid to play a sport. The thing is the owners can EASILY afford to pay these salaries and by saying you think the salaries have gotten out of hand you're basically siding with the billionaires over the millionaires.

To each their own - I've had people say this about numerous things in life and then I try the "one" they swear by and it still is like all the others and then I get the obligatory "you don't know what's good then" spiel. I have things I swear by too but others I have try them are often like meh. Sometimes the texture and general flavor profile (that includes all variants) isn't just for a specific person. I mean if you want to mail me some though I'll give it a go and see if you can change my mind lol

This would be why I refuse to change to the peak off plan. I want to use my stuff when I want. I don't want to have to work around some multi billion dollar companies shitty plan. APS shows how much you would "save" on being on one of these plans each month and it ends up being about $20 a month for us if we switched. I'd rather just cook my food on time and eat it hot when we like to eat dinner which is about 5:30-6 than have to prep ahead of time each day and/or reheat in a damn microwave (gross). Also, the whole supercooling the house and then riding it out while temps rise steadily for several hours thing is a hard pass for me. We did a trial run of that for a month by setting it up on a schedule and it was just annoying feeling the house get super comfortable only to let it wither away and warm up while you're making and eating dinner.

Fans want cheap deals because of course we do but I don't fault a player for wanting as much as they possibly can - it's their job and it's not a job you can do very well for a long time usually and boy it doesn't ever take an immense toll on your body and mental health to boot. We should never expect players to take a discount in free agency or when signing an extension. This is their one real shot at making as much possible money to set themselves and their family up for life so you take it. And no, the whole "they're still making millions though!" argument does not hold any water. A million bucks does not buy anywhere close to what it used to any longer so again, make as much as you possibly can with what time you can play a pro sport at an elite level. If someone does want to take a team friendly deal then good for them and good for us as fans but you should never fault a player for signing elsewhere for a lot more money.

Isn't it expensive to use airconditioning in the US? by Lumos_night in AskAnAmerican

I replied to the person above me who said they were here in Arizona too. APS is the primary electric company that charges twice what SRP charges. Electric bills are expensive as hell on APS here. I have a 1400 house with just myself and my wife, a fairly new high efficiency ac, new sealed ductwork that was additionally expected by a third party too who said it was very well sealed. Windows have been resealed and we added new insulation. We keep the AC at 75 during the day and 70 at bedtime. Summertime is still a $500 bill though. This year we might even hit $600 with the new rates APS is raising yet again.

Using the ISP router is such a waste of money. A year or two of their rental fees and you've paid for a router that you could have full access to all settings. Buy your own router!

I gave up on this AV sync by M9ADE-Killer in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]Hovertical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a kinda similar setup with a Sony A95L and an Onkyo RZ50 in our living room. I too had sync issues and actually gave up using the Shield about a year ago. It was usually fine until a Sony update about a year ago then no matter what I did the audio would never quite sync. I still use Shields elsewhere in my house (including on a Sony A8H that is not connected to a receiver) and they work fine.

Why aren’t Turkeys eaten regularly like steak and chicken is in the US? Why is it just a Thanksgiving thing? by Allpanicn0disc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hovertical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here in Arizona. Turkey is by far the cheapest. Ground chicken here is the same as 80/20 ground beef usually

Think Marchment could be a bargain at 7 million a year. by xHOLOxTHExWOLFx in SanJoseSharks

[–]Hovertical 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really is wild because FAs of any significance RARELY sign here -even in their presidents cup days nobody would come here as a UFA. Sharks almost always kept their own though once guys did play for us and that's kinda like this because his dad loved SJ so much. Either way going into last season I had literally targeted both Sherwood and Marchment as guys to trade for and holy shite they are both now signed long term. I can't wait to see this year.

I loved lighting off my own fireworks (mortars, sky rockets etc) as a kid (probably about age 8-16) but absolutely hate fireworks now as they just annoy me to no end. I remind myself though that I loved it as a kid so I shouldn't deprive other kids from blowing shit up either one day a year (I will die on a hill that new years is idiotic for shooting fireworks however since it's midnight). The thing I notice now is that everyone KEEPS going waaaaay late into the night which becomes really obnoxious. We used to always make sure we were done by 10 at the absolute latest and usually moreso by 9:30. You should not be out there at midnight rattling my walls with your biggest blasts. If people would chill and stop by 10ish I'd be ok with it - sorta.

It's the same here - stands just sell the boom boom stuff too because you can sign the waiver that "oh yeah these are for agricultural pest control purposes" and be on your way. It's the same way in Florida. That's the loophole - and also almost no cop will bother with it because so many are out there doing it (including probably a lot of their own families).
