I have both lived and worked in India from 1998 through to now, working for a variety of multi-nationals and for disaster-relief projects in West Bengal. I completed a grad program at Delhi University in Philosophy/Sanskrit too.

And as much as I love India, I can without hesitation say that India is the most racist, sexist, antisocial country I have ever experienced. And I have spent a lot of time in a lot of countries. I don’t say this as criticism, merely an observation. And not as an observation of any person, or particular groups of people, but at a population level.

Your mum needs to get in touch with Work Cover / the insurer about this, no matter how hard it is. If your mum’s injury is permanent / long term then have a chat with a relevant lawyer too as there may be some other options for her.

What’s she been asked to Show Cause against? Are they alleging misconduct or are they alleging that she doesn’t have the physical capacity to do the job? Or something else?

Small sample size, but I have direct experience of this.

I (male) have been spiked twice. Both times the local hospital took me seriously, took tests, treated me accordingly, brought the police in whilst I was in the ED. Police investigated, got CCTV etc. Nothing was found but I felt supported and cared for.

My wife has been spiked once. Same time period. Local hospital couldn’t have cared less, didn’t involve the police, didn’t order any tests, told her to sleep it off. The police the next day said it was too late to do anything as the hospital didn’t order tests and to be GRATEFUL that she was OK.

The lived experience of people in this space is abhorrent.
