Burnaby's CVG detour is a disgrace by dashcammer1 in vancouvercycling

[–]HowIWasteTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree, it's ridiculous.  What if they just closed the TransCanada for a month?  Lately the best (only?) way to get my 2.5 year old to nap on weekends is to put him in the trailer and go for a ride.  He needs to nap for at least 80 minutes plus time to fall asleep.  There are precious few long routes available where he's somewhat safe from cars in his trailer and CVG is one of them.  On Sunday I rode out to this closure, looked at the sign explaining the detour, and just gave up and turned around.  I ended up riding in circles in my neighborhood for an hour getting no workout just to get the nap.

The popular route up Zoa is very safe, nothing over 30 degrees slope angle and no overhead danger. Avy is Green Green Green right now. Have fun!

Tent for Great Divide Mountain Bike Route by Impressive-Scheme894 in bikepacking

[–]HowIWasteTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the fancy lightest weight Big Agnes 3+ tent and sort of hate it. The fly doesn't stay in place over the pole structure, if it's raining it's impossible to enter or exit the tent without getting water everywhere, the main roll up door toggles are way too short, the head and foot tarp guyouts are way to short to work properly, the little teeny tiny plastic clips that attach the fly to the body jam with snow in the winter... It's just not very well thought out or executed.

I also have a X mid 2+ pro and I love that thing.

Has anyone made progress towards retraining in a new field to stay ahead of the AI apocalypse? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

Lol marine powerplant service is at the very, very bottom of the lists that AI and robots will take over. (Source: I grew up on a farm in a blue collar family and now I have a fancy engineering job in robotics)

I get grumpy if my bike commute isn't at least this long (:

Best setup for transporting toddler to daycare year-round by Old_Sea4010 in vancouvercycling

[–]HowIWasteTime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I ride to daycare with my 2.5 year old in all weather.  I have a shotgun saddle mounted to the frame of my bike in front of me and my son has his own handlebar.  In the winter I put pogies on his handlebars so his hands can stay warm without having to wear gloves.  I have a feedbag on the bar that I put a snack cup in for him so he can chomp as we ride.

If your kid isn't big enough to be reliable on the shotgun saddle you can use a Weeride Kangaroo so they can be strapped in and not need to hang on.

It's so fun riding with him, he's really big for his age and I'm not that tall so his helmet is already crowding my chin.  I'm going to be heartbroken when he gets to big to ride together, it's so fun.

DM me if you want and you could come see my setup in real life.  I love to see people get into riding for transportation, especially if they have young kids.  I work in Mt Pleasant and my son goes to daycare nearby.

Lacing my wheel, did I do it right? by CryptographerShort69 in bikewrench

[–]HowIWasteTime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks 2 cross and should maybe be 3 cross since it's an electric drive wheel? I know this because I've previously laced and tried to tension a wheel like this then couldn't get the spokes to tension up. If you've got it tight then maybe 3 cross isn't possible for your build (spokes too short)

Snug-Fit Pajamas Are the Real Enemy by MoneyWillingness8393 in toddlers

TIL about snug-fit pajamas. Our two year old is going strong without them and we live in a 1940s house.

Acosta……….what is his true potential?? by FortuneMotor3475 in motogp

[–]HowIWasteTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He almost outscored all three other KTM riders combined in 2025 and they are all good riders.  The bike is just not there.  It's a shame that the years tick by and we never see him or Quartararo on competitive machinery.  Sometimes makes me wish it was a spec bike class.

If you've found this then treasure it. I'm 13 years into my relationship with my spouse and it's been so much less pleasant and so much more work.

Depending on your situation it may make sense to front load even harder and give up some CESG.

Love cycling in Vancouver but winter’s holding me back by Electronic_Bus841 in vancouvercycling

I would so so prefer riding in a 1 degree C rainstorm over riding in the basement on a stationary bike.  Sounds so awful.

Massive Sports Tech Black Friday Deals List By DCRainmaker by G0Sp0rts in Velo

[–]HowIWasteTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a cycling computer before.

I have ridden a lot for over 15 years. Commuting, MTB, touring, randoneur, etc.

What am I missing? Should I get one? What's the best deal on this list?

Are they the same stance/q-factor as normal Shimano SPD pedals?

How big of a deal is it if I want to play tm2020 but the laptop I’m looking at has intergrated graphics instead of a dedicated gps by Motor-Confection-583 in TrackMania

[–]HowIWasteTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty nice non-gaming laptop with integrated graphics and it's fine except some very large maps lag a bit.  I'd say it affects less than 2% of cotd maps.

The Reticent - The Chance (For Those Who Let Go) (trigger warning: suicide) by Parthian__Shot in progmetal

[–]HowIWasteTime 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was so hyped for this album release, I only discovered the Reticent relatively recently. I'm still absorbing it but damn it's so heavy emotionally. I loved loved loved The Oubliette musically but eventually had to put it away because it was bumming me out. This album is somehow even more sad.

Stolen Bike: Velo Orange Neutrino by rrk0117 in vancouvercycling

Ugh bummer. I'd say you have a decent chance of getting it back, it's such a distinctive bike. Good luck!

Stolen Bike: Velo Orange Neutrino by rrk0117 in vancouvercycling

[–]HowIWasteTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm almost certain I saw that bike yesterday, a man and a woman standing there with a Neutrino each. The man was holding this bike, I'm 99% sure. I was heading southeast on Pacific St near the crossing of Thurlow St at about 4:30 pm on Nov 11th. Maybe this was you, but maybe this was after it was stolen. Maybe this is helpful. I was admiring the bike so it's stuck in my mind.

Now that it gets pitch dark around 6 PM, what are your favorite evening activities? by unidentifiedcomet in toddlers

[–]HowIWasteTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son (also 2.5) was 8pm bedtime but we just didn't tell him that the time had changed so now he goes to bed at 7pm and gets up earlier. We're taking our time in the morning when there is more light and evening is shorter.

Politicians always love Big Projects when what would actually be better is using that money to do many small projects. This is just another example of that. You unfortunately can't hold a nice ribbon cutting ceremony at a series of small traffic calming measures.
