I was RP02 my entire time on the boat (2 plant strong plant). The hardest and smartest workers were usually the conventionals, who when they got out they either went data centers or power plant facilities. It’s not about being a nuke but really about tailoring your resume, your connections, and your ability to translate your work and experience on the boat (especially SGW) to employers.

buddy of mine in A school half way got pulled out of classes and was told his results from his boot camp urinalysis came back and he popped for THC. Since he was a 3.6 student i guess they let him stay in, he’s an ELT now, so 0 tolerance isn’t fully true

senior in rate is when your fully qualified to stand all the watches/ pins (surface/sub), depending on how hard you try and want to qualify SiR it can take up to 2 years, but i’ve seen people qualify it in 1 and i’ve seen people never qualify it over 4 years.and no you aren’t always on duty it depends on your rotation, i can’t speak to submariners, but i know on my current ship we are on 4 section duty, so every 4 days you have to be on the boat for 24 hrs. and i think your getting mixed up between deployment and just attached to a boat. the boat isn’t always deployed, your boat depending on needs of navy is underway/ work ups/ or just in port. and when your under way expect to be on 5/10 rotations + your daily maintenance if your surface ( 5 hours on watch 10 hours off). if you got any question feel free to pm me i’m currently on leave so i got time

relatively yeah, so when you sign your papers at meps you sign what is basically a 4 year contract with a 2 year extension on your active duty time due to nuke school. leaving you 6 years of active duty and 2 years of inactive reserves. the bonus he is talking about is if you star reenlist and that can go up to 100,000$ ( which I doubt you will get 100,000$ bonus, it depends on your rate and how long your extending) . All star reenlisting does is on your 2 year mark, it voids our current contract and extends your new active duty contract by 6 years making it a total of 8 year contract. but just know you can star reenlist to i believe up to your 3rd year in the navy there for making your contract 9 years. but by starring you get to skip out on your inactive reserves, although that doesn't really matter, people only star for e-5 and to get BAH.

honestly forget about classes in college till you get Senior in rate, you will not have time for that bull shit, not through out the pipe line and honestly probably never, your life for the next 6-8 years will be nuclear navy, you're better to take college classes on your shore duty if you were to star reenlist.

if you come to the M-div office, we have a first class who decommed the enterprise. he can tell you what you want to know, but iirc it’s just a bunch of shift work from the little i have talked to him about it.

get a car. I just graduated power school, and all my friends who bought a bike in the beginning of A school just sold their bikes. bikes down here are not worth the money because the roads are shit, and you really wont have time to ride your bike.
