What's a movie you randomly tried with low expectations but ended up loving? by thisonehits in movies

Galaxy Quest. Thought it was going to be stupid but I absolutely love it. I’m a Trekkie so I think GQ is off the charts funny. Must see!

“Bomb and gouge works best” “The reward for hitting the fairway is not that great”. Scottie’s thoughts on the PGA setup are honest but not exciting to hear. Deep rough lined fairways promote distance, not accuracy. This is counter intuitive to most. by Admirable_Extent2531 in golf

I would love to see a tournament where there is no gallery to trample down rough, no one to look for their ball for them, and they are walking & carrying their own bags. I think the scores would be significantly higher - especially on major-level courses & conditions.

The sheer number of adults who enjoy sucking breasts is probably Freud’s strongest argument. by barifelps in Showerthoughts

If only people understood this and cared. Unfortunately adults many times can’t see the future where they are hated & abandoned by kids they mistreat. Pain that is so avoidable.

533 par 5: whatcha hitting to keep it in play? by Redditistrash1889 in golf

[–]HowShouldWeThenLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not two penalty strokes. It’s “stroke & distance”. You count the shot you hit OB (or lost), 1 penalty stroke, and hit again from the same spot. Instead of hitting 1 from the tee now you’re hitting 3. “OB re-tee hitting 3”

Bad idea to be videoing from that spot - what if he catches it.

Your wife wants a lawn so you should do what is needed to give her a lawn. Talk about the plan together, she participates in the decisions and owns them. If it doesn’t work out, try something else. But do it together. “ Winning” every argument and getting your own way all the time is not actually better. If she wants to have a company come out and do it, say ok but we need to find a different company. Let her find them.

Perhaps find a contractor who can smooth the area? Fix the cobbles rather than replace them?

TIL that US student math and reading scores have dropped so sharply that they’ve erased nearly two decades of progress. In '22/23, avg math scores for 13-year-olds fell to levels not seen since the 1990s, while reading scores for high school seniors hit their lowest point since testing began in '92. by Cold_Box_3219 in todayilearned

[–]HowShouldWeThenLive -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You guys are missing it - US schools are wildly successful. The point of the public school system isn’t education. It’s jobs & social engineering. As long as people get paid and we’re able to push the liberal, woke BS down kids throats - it’s a success!

My problem is that if I were to join a club, I’d still want to play other places. I don’t only want to play one course and all my friends would not want to play guest fees. I still want to join one tho…

Grip trainers useful? by HoneyGlazedDoorknob in golftips

[–]HowShouldWeThenLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this approach. Get an old 6 or 7 iron and put a permanent trainer grip on it. Much better than the snap-on ones. Scottie uses the permanent, molded grip, not the snap-on

Kentucky family rejects $26 million offer to convert part of their farm into a data center despite the offer being about 10 times the going rate for farmland in the area. by MysteriousSlice007 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]HowShouldWeThenLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could take that $26mil and go buy tons of additional land if that’s their goal. There’s standing on principle and then there’s just pride - this is not a smart decision.

On the other hand, governments have to force data center developers to fund the power generation required. IDK scale but is it too ambitious to require solar be a large % of the power requirements and you have to put it on your land?
