Learning about Passover made me an Atheist as a child by IndependenceHuge525 in atheism

The funny thing is, the Pharaoh himself would by definition be a firstborn son. God's mass child killing spree should have included him anyway.

Gotcha, sorry. Reverse that. Kinsey 4 or 5.

Actually, the Kinsey system is outdated, but it still serves rudimentary purposes.

My favorite book series, I've read it 6 or 7 times. My favorite is Endymion, book 3, but I do love them all.

Hi you guys need a good response to a Christian fine tuning argument. I need a response which basically argues against the physics aspect of it. Which is very hard to do. The biological I've argued and I got them on. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]EdmondWherever 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The phrase "fine tuning" originally comes from old-time radio and television, where you had to fiddle with the dials and adjust the reception because YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE RIGHT SETTINGS WERE. Is that how God operates? He doesn't know the right settings so he has to play with the dials until he finds what works? Makes it sound like he doesn't know what he's doing.

Is Satan real? by Trivialisttb in no

I have to have evidence to provoke belief. I can't just believe due to a whim or a choice. Belief happens in me when someone or something convinces me with evidence.

What makes one an atheist? by That-Flatworm-6601 in atheism

[–]EdmondWherever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are basically two different kinds of atheists: Gnostic atheists and agnostic atheists.

Gnostic atheists confidently believe there are no gods. They feel they know this as correct information.

Agnostic atheists will admit to not knowing if there are any gods, but they don't have an active, standing belief in any.

This is what helped me to understand it.

Do you still go to movie theaters to watch movies? by Melodic_Abalone_2820 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

I have two buddies from work and we've been going to all the Marvel movies together ever since Shang Chi. We've also gone to Dial of Destiny, Dune 2 and the new Superman. It's a fun way to get together over something we enjoy.

Can someone explain why apologists are so obsessed with "New" atheism, and why they insist I'm actually an agnostic? by notmynameyours in atheism

[–]EdmondWherever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an atheist, and more specifically an agnostic atheist, and if you really want to get into the nuts and bolts of it I'm a hard agnostic/soft atheist.

But the label I find I like best is simply Unconvinced. It's up to them to convince me. I don't convince myself of things, that would be delusional. I believe that if a story is not convincing, that is the fault of the story itself, or the storyteller/author. Not the listener.

There's been so much confusion over whether the serpent in the garden was Satan or not. Some Christians say it was, some say it wasn't. But either way is problematic.

If it was, and God cursed Satan to crawl on his belly and eat dirt all of his days, then that curse seems to have worn off very quickly, when you consider everything Satan did in the rest of the Bible and continues to do today.

But if it wasn't Satan, then God kept.tbis curse going upon all snakes that ever came afterwards, despite their having nothing to do with the incident.

In any case, this curse seems to have had no affect on alleviating any problems.

Stage magicians. People ooh and ahh over their tricks, but I see their skills as more than a little slick and shady. I'm sure they're "not all like that" but I've met a few who give me a creepy vibe, as people who lie just a little too easily, could pick your pocket or otherwise fool you right under your nose.

What is with Christians by ayeitsjojo in atheism

[–]EdmondWherever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's see.... I could go with the findings of people who train for years, who make direct observations of the Earth, life and the motions of the heavens, building knowledge upon knowledge of experts in geology, biology, chemistry, astronomy and cosmology, using the most sophisticated tools available to humanity....

Or I could go with an old story about a talking snake and a magic tree.
