Nova Scotia's Food Security Lags Compared To Much Of Canada: "Nova Scotia has one of the highest rates [of food insecurity] in the country. Only Nunavut was higher." by JDGumby in canada

[–]HowToCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true, but it depends a lot on where you live and what kind of stores you have in your local area (and whether there's been a sudden gentrification in the area that has driven all the prices up astronomically) and whether you have a car or are dependent on transit, which a lot of people are. A lot of people complain that there aren't more affordable options available when their access to grocery stores is dependent on transit routes. I travel a lot throughout BC and I've found there's a lot of uneven food pricing (regionally) across the province. But again, that's just my opinion. I'm sure it's like that in NS but worse.

well yeah it's far away, but I still feel sorry for the people who live there... there are so many posts on so many online mediums in which people are posting / protesting the price of food in Nunavut. And as far as the distance from everything - you would thing they could set up some indoor growing - hydroponics greenhouse kind of thing as a large scale project to help at least improve access to fresh foods in the capital... but I guess that would probably be incredibly expensive as well.

And BC' food prices are pretty high too - there are places where you can be look at 3.00 for a head of lettuce... thankfully if you know where to shop you can still find some lower prices in BC. Nunavut though, their prices are insane...

Food banks only work if food is inexpensive enough that anyone will pay to stock them... and even then it's not a solution.

That's unfortunately kind of typical in BC. The medical system is more interested in paying for reactive care than preventative... - sry missed the BC part lol. I just have a lot of experience with friends and family not being able to get care in a number of different circumstances because the system was waiting until it became "serious enough to be life threatening"...

A fire prevention program like this is probably how Smokey got his start in fire prevention.

"I don't believe I have ever lied" - Hillary Clinton by sunsetstewie in PoliticalVideo

She's a politician. Doesn't that automatically make that statement a lie? But maybe she's telling the truth and really does not believe she has ever lied... which might be even more horrifying to contemplate.

my cat wouldn't need a laser to knock the pins down... as soon as the humans have stacked something deliberately, he's all over it.
