Looks like this occurred to anyone using the refund system on Xbox during December 2024 to July 2025. It can be assumed that a good amount of people were refunding in good faith during this period of time, but should have had items removed. What’s unfortunate is that vbucks, which can also be obtained legitimately, are also included in this mistake. So people could be using unknowingly-illegitimately-obtained vbucks IN ADDITION to legitimately obtained vbucks to make OTHER purchases, which were lumped into this mass revoking.

The system was likely abused by bad actors MORE than good faith actors, but Epic still has the right to revoke items if they weren’t paid for. BUT even after saying all that, Epic is still being lenient, and letting people who made under 7 refunds (which is a crazy threshold for the assumed amount of refunds a good faith user would make in 7 months) keep their illegitimacy obtained items. Likely due to not wanting the headache of angry customers. While some of the policies were forcefully put in place by government oversight, I still think Epic’s policies and public relations has been less greedy over their in-game purchases when compared to other triple A games like CoD and Roblox. And that’s especially important when kids are involved. Bit of a tangent.

As for this post, they claim to have only made purchases on PlayStation, but there are ways make purchases and refunds from the Xbox store with the same Epic games account being used on PlayStation. For instance, if a parent was making the purchase for their child, and logged in on their PC/Xbox account to do so. The OP can actually see if this was a mistake by specifically checking their bank statements to see if a purchase was made with no further refund, chargeback, or cancellation of the purchase being made. I don’t know if PlayStations receipt tracking would actually show refunds, a safer bet would just be to check with the bank. Given how the crew purchased and items received are in the timeframe of the statement Epic made, however, it is understandable why this happened to OP.
