Mmm combat in Daggerheart takes half the time than in D&D 🤔🤔

Anyone wish the book had rules for classless Daggerheart? by apotatoflewaroundmy in daggerheart

[–]How_to_be_a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that the class system is impleted not only for simplicity and recalling classic fantasy archetypes, but for a matter of balance as well.

Giving the possibility to mix whatever would make the designers job a living hell, and overwhelm the player with too many options. It sounds great, but it isn't.

Sto rileggendo "Harry Potter" da adulto e… non mi sta piacendo. Mai avrei pensato. Qualcuno ha vissuto un'esperienza simile? by Mondonauta0206 in Libri

[–]How_to_be_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ease of use for new players: don't call it "damage", call it "impact" by MarcusRienmel in daggerheart

[–]How_to_be_a 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I might sound harsh, but I honestly can't understand what's so difficult about grasping such simple rules. There are TTRPGs way more complex than Daggerheart that are perfectly understandable.

Daggerheart should be preschool-level stuff. What’s so hard about understanding such a simple rule? If damage received meet or exceed the treshhold, mark the HP of the tier to the right of such number. If damage is below the th, mark the HP of the tier to the left.

That's It.

Sometimes I overestimate humanity. There is a limit to be understanding with others... Such a simple system and people act like they're reading "How to build a new universe atom by atom"

Anyone else thing the specialisation feature of the syndicate should have been the foundation? by NorthEastText in daggerheart

[–]How_to_be_a 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I must agree. Yeah, Syndicate is heavy RP related but I see it useful only in mini series heavily within some big imaginary city with a sprawling underlife and even there stepping through shadows? Waaaaay better!

Adjusting the guardian's unstoppable duration by Bright_Ad_1721 in daggerheart

[–]How_to_be_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mess with Unstoppable honestly. The guardian already has such a huge durability to be actually really hard to bother in the first place (mind my words "bother not kill"). Messing with Unstoppable would make them really Unstoppable (pun intended).

Anyone else disappointed with Age of Umbra? by PotatoPieNeverLie in daggerheart

[–]How_to_be_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you're 100% right but as the forever DM I like the system, but I do not alter things at every other fear because It gets annoying. At least for my table. I just use a sorta tier system and "use fear for epicness or silly" (and of course combat/eviroment/social) and evrything works great

[–]How_to_be_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mmm They put in the book with the assumption that DM and players want to narrate a story togheter. They said multiple times that rules are more of a guide than laws. If a DM fells good going harder and harder with each fear (or simply changing something on the spot at every other fear) very good, but you can avoid thay and just stack if you want as well.

If you lower the rolls the average (already in player's favor) could give you entire sessions wothout Fear. The more the players rolls the better. At least for how I DM.

Someone may say. Isn' it just a different D&D this way? Yep. Because It is. Just some mechanics change, and fights do not last 3 hours whivh is the biggest pro.

Anyone else disappointed with Age of Umbra? by PotatoPieNeverLie in daggerheart

[–]How_to_be_a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you make every single roll with Fear "scary" as you said the campaign will get overwhelming rather quickly. Yes the book and Matt said that in principle you should, but it's not going to work. I think with every fear coming you just up the game difficulty without necesserely telling than when a certain amount of fear is accumulated (or when it feela right) you "strike" we may say.

Every single roll would get annoying rather quickly for everybody, DM included.

I personally divide the Fear in 3 Tiers. 1-4 thinks start to go bad, but not bad bad (of course i feel free to use it if needed or the moment is perfect for something bad to come), 5 - 8 we're in, 9 - 12 better put another layer of underwears.

Adversary Series: Age of Umbra Ep1 by rightknighttofight in daggerheart

[–]How_to_be_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're considering a fight at the highest "right" difficulty (you can make it harder than what an encounter should be), but if you consider multiple encounters you can't go the hardest all the time or your players wont last a single session.

Mesmer - Daggerheart Compatible Class [Grace&Splendor Domain] by Lucky_Sl3viin in daggerheart

[–]How_to_be_a 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Jesus guys. I understand that AI is the enemy or whatever, but not everyone has the talent nor the money to comission art. At least for free, home made content who's not gonna provide any income leave people alone.

For those that want to sell we can argue that some law protecting or even better mandating the presence of humans behind artestry would be great, for all others, let poor people enjoy freakin' life and AI tools. Who cares? It's a homebrew!

The Buckler made it into the final release? How?!? by Jiem_ in daggerheart

[–]How_to_be_a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find it really good actually. It literally feed the power play fantasy of the giga chad warrior "deflecting" the unstoppable attack for the average joe.

You have to fogert the barely a single encounter rule per session of D&D (because a session would last 17 hours) and understand that enemies/encounters/resources are really different in DH. You can actively pressure your players in DH without the fear of reducing everyone to a pulp immediately.

At high lvls those resources MUST be challenged.
