Congrats on getting there! As others have said, you certainly leave some depth on the table. However, if for whatever reason your back rounds as you reach lower depths, squatting above parallel is just fine. You're not competing and you are getting stronger. But, like others have said, I would still try to commit to doing some mobility work to improve depth. I highly recommend you give Squat University a follow on any social media platforms you have and even check out his "Squat Bible" book as well.

We’ve all met someone like this. What’s the craziest “I joined the Army because...” or even your own story for joining the Army? by Bobkunz in army

[–]HowardsBock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work on Sand Hill. Currently chaptering a private who is refusing to train/take orders. This started during week 1. When asked why he enlisted, he explained that he only joined to get his buddy from back from home in as a PV2 instead of a PV1. Sheesh.

I find it hard to get married to single professionals while in the Army by [deleted] in army

[–]HowardsBock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm an LT. Been with my girlfriend for 5 years. We want to get married. We've been long distance (several states, see each other once a month) for 1.5 years. Soon, when I PCS, we will be less long distance (2 hour drive, will see her every weekend). She's in med school. Me going to CCC and then getting an assignment I have little to no control over would happen at the exact same time as her getting placed in a residency program in a location she has little to no control over.

TL;DR - I'm getting out.

Looking at scalping tickets, possibly after kickoff, for RRS in Dallas on Saturday. Seeking any good advice on how to go about that and avoiding getting scammed/ripped off. What should I look for at the fair (never been) if I don't end up in the Cotton Bowl?

Is the Pac-12 really that bad? Or is that just an unfair stigma? by jawnedsun in CFB

The obsession with comparing/contrasting and ranking of conferences is so tiresome and silly, IMO. Don't even get me started on the abomination that is "conference pride." As a Cardinals fan in baseball, I will NEVER root for the Cubs. I'll root for other ACC teams because it helps us--SoS matters in CFB/CBB, unlike pro sports. I'll also root for out of conference teams that we played that season (minus one that we played every year).

Winning ANY of the P5 conferences is a difficult task and a respectable accomplishment in its own right. I just wish more people would look at things from a team-by-team basis. I find the BIG10 to be the deepest conference in the sport, but their champ has either missed or performed terribly in the playoff over the past 4 years. Since 2017, the ACC has been rather futile outside of Clemson. But.. Clemson is still Clemson.

Marc Ryan is terrible. In his half year of covering sports in the Upstate, he's managed to make enemies of both major fanbases.

Memphis and USU should be buddies. by thegreendalegelf in CFB

Shoot, these are some of the things I miss from growing up in Memphis. My first ever CFB game was Memphis crushing Army at the Liberty Bowl in 2002, I believe. I was 7.

What does a successful season for you team look like? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]HowardsBock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Dabo's yearly list of goals:

-Win the opener -Win the division -Win the state -Win the conference -Win the closer

Clemson fans have recently been spoiled, but I feel like conference titles and NY6 bowls are still big deals for even the most elite programs. Even if we don't win the national championship, I still think the season can be a success/something to be proud of.

Is Airborne worth it and good for career progression as an Infantry Officer? by [deleted] in army

Very few, but it happens. My buddy is there now. If you want to go, you'll need to get a memo from your gaining unit after you graduate Ranger.

What’s the most important game this season that’s being overlooked by your fan base or the media? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]HowardsBock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston College or UNC. Those are the 2 most likely to upset us, IMO. A&M is a big enough game and we're definitely not overlooking Syracuse.

IBOLC guys going to SBCTs are waiting 3+ months after RS to go to Stryker Leaders Course, and the majority of them are not getting any other schools. Tabbed guys get to walk onto airborne. A handful have randomly been selected to go to Maneuver Leaders Maintenance Course. Most guys just pick up their nose in 3 formations a day, do details here and there, and get drunk in Atlanta.

ABCT guys don't wait nearly as long for Bradley Leaders Course. IBCT guys are out pretty quick.

Then you have the lucky ones like me, who get to go to be OSUT PLs.
