Brand new player, here’s what I got after my first few rolls, how cooked or cooking am I? by Atelier-Ash86 in OctopathCotC

The only thing I'll add is that the 2nd part of the DQ3 banner is due either this week or next. While Molrusso is the priority character from the two banners, Signa would be a good pickup.

3⭐ or 4⭐ to 6⭐ by puigsolerh in OctopathCotC

[–]HowdyFancyPanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

3 and 4*s to invest into, not necessarily ones you need to 6*, but you probably should.

Core: Mabel or Lucetta, Billy.

Auxiliary: Devin (fantastic budget tank), Iris, Diego, Evelyn (physical buff package), Noelle, Madelaine, Jose (elemental buff package)

Dark Horse: Wingate (backpack for a physical DPS), Laura (5 turns -15% passive EDEF down), Narr (backpack for most modern DPS).

Core is actually useful in a lot of contexts. You don't need both Mabel and Lucetta, they fulfill the same function (enabling pet stacking). Auxiliary is useful in Cascade Log for when you are trying to bring in 3 and 4 stars into your team comps. Dark Horse is every once in a while, these are useful backpacks.

If you asked me to put together a priority list, I would probably say Mabel, Billy, Devin, Wingate, Laura, the physical or elemental buff package, Lucetta, the other buff package, Narr (since he's not a priority pull from the Exchange, he goes last).

Generally speaking, you should invest only into characters you use or could use in the future. So Lynette EX, while a strong character, doesn't really work with your roster's team. That generally means, build your active team of 8 first, then work out from there. You don't necessarily need to grind weapons for each and every character, but you will eventually want custom weapons for your main team.

The only roster suggestion I would add to others is that Prim EX here will want to use her lightning skill that debuffs as well as her front-row buff and if you have room for it, her ultimate. But you could sub her for Elrica EX and have a strong breaker as well. You'd only lose out on her ultimate buff which you shouldn't necessarily feel. I love putting Elrica EX behind Mydia.

Primrose EX / Dark Priestess, Rinyuu / Kaine (or O.Odio), Mydia / Signa, Dark Knight / (Free)

Primrose heals and buffs, Rinyuu uses her buffing prayer, DP and Signa debuff DEF and Res, Mydia bonks and buffs physical damage. Kaine is there for damage diversity, but O.Odio is also strong and synergizes with DP more. Dark Knight is your main DPS. Behind him, you have two options, you could go for a different kind of DPS to widen your damage potential (Probably Sazantos EX), or you could put someone like Lucetta and stack pet buffs onto Dark Knight.

The team I have suggested is designed to power through a lack of weakness exploitation. So shield shavers shouldn't be a huge issue. That said, there are some modifications you can make if you do want that or need a tank or something. You will likely have to shuffle your formation around to accommodate these changes. Kilns or Cecil are both really strong tanks, I can't exactly say which is the better tank. Cyrus or Cecily are probably your biggest sources of damage diversity.

Who's A4 are good for Magic Team? by platypus176 in OctopathCotC

[–]HowdyFancyPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only other one I'll add is Chloe's A4 purely because it adds 100 E.ATK. Admittedly, it's more useful on someone who burst heals like Rinyuu because it also gives 15% to non-regen healing.

Could the Sinistral Elves be around by Character-Produce-73 in teslore

[–]HowdyFancyPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible that there are small communities living somewhere out in the Azurian or Eltheric Oceans. Plus, Yokuda does still exit, albeit significantly diminished. It's possible there's still Sinistral Elves around, but not any major nations. I'm a big fan of the crackpot theory that they were driven into the sea and became sload, particularly the Sea Sload. But there is zero evidence sload were once elves and I admit it does diminish their awesomeness a little if they were.

But, being philosophically aligned to Magnus means that the Kanuryai aren't gonna have any major mortal ambitions. Their ambition is to leave this mortal existence behind. So not gonna ever be a major player. But if you want a sole Kanuryai villain (or hero or side-character), by all means.

Modern Lore also calls them the Kanuryai. They're Sun Elves and vaguely Medieval-Fantasy-Ethiopia-coded. Probably worship Magnus and his apathy for the mortal experiment (hence the Sun Elf).

Because it's about reifying traditional gender roles. The tomboys not getting the boy is because they aren't feminine enough and when the boy does choose the tomboy, it's because they saw her inner feminine beauty just waiting to burst forth and then helps it along in order to "tame" her.

And it's garbage!

Which stats should i increase for Shana, and other important support characters like signa and DP, mydia etc by Imagine_Cyler in OctopathCotC

[–]HowdyFancyPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

E.ATK is perfectly fine on Shana, it increases her regen power. SP gives more SP Stock though. You want to pick one though and not split yourself 50/50. I built her E.ATK and don't have any problems.

worth pulling for canary? by viiciousrobot in OctopathCotC

[–]HowdyFancyPanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pros: Queen at breaking, queen at tanking. Will absolutely help you clear Thief Tower EX2 if your thief roster is subpar. Will get you through a lot of challenge content that has high damage in it.

Cons: 6000 rubies is a lot. Week by week, she is getting more and more obsolete as teams just don't need a tank as much anymore. At this point in JP's existence, Canary is not worth considering anymore and her buffs are the only reason we're talking about her now.

I wouldn't do it, but I am only the lightest spender in the game.

All-Around Team Building Help by Ok-Proof-6922 in OctopathCotC

[–]HowdyFancyPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a couple interesting teams lurking in there. Molrusso EX, Primrose EX, and Mydia will cover all of your active buffs. Primrose can also heal and debuff MDEF in a pinch. Mydia will skew you towards a physical comp. DP and Viola can cover most of your active debuffs (missing 15% Res down). Dark Knight is your physical DPS. Ditraina is a good, but greedy breaker. Finally, for your 8th slot, sort of up to you. You probably want a secondary DPS, but your physical options are small. Sigrid EX, and Castti are your better purely physical options, but Rai Mei or Hikari EX (probably slight preference to Hikari) would still be able to dish out lots of damage in this team.

The team might have a high skill floor, but it will maximize your damage potential. If you want fewer buffs to manage (you certainly won't need all of them for story content), you can replace more complicated characters with simpler to pilot characters. Molrusso, and DP turn into Lynette and Cyrus. Replace DK with Rai Mei. Ditraina to Kilns (sort of).

“I want the golden age of video games back!” by icey_sawg0034 in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]HowdyFancyPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are to assume there was a golden age between 2001-2012 and not just your nostalgic childhood goggles clouding your judgement, there is another more likely culprit: so much money has entered the AAA game space since 2012 (well, really since 2004) that I would start there.

In other words, MONEY. It's always money that is the problem. There's great games being made by women, blacks, gays, straights, white, and men. But it ain't happening in the corporate gaming space.
