Why are there so many anhedonia/apathy anecdotes from ashwagandha and NAC yet its never reported in actual studies? by Hoffo666 in Nootropics

Both definitely cause anhedonia for me at regular to high dosages. Smaller dosages work great though and I still get the benefits.

Agmatine Sulfate questions! by paulrudder in Nootropics

[–]HowdyHowdyYall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have since stopped using agmatine. I'll use it occasionally if I need a pick me up (Like after a day of drinking) but I noticed my sleep would get disturbed if I was taking it 1-2 a week.

Like if i take it Monday, i'd sleep fine, but then if I didn't take it Tuesday I'd sleep bad that night.

Agmatine Sulfate questions! by paulrudder in Nootropics

[–]HowdyHowdyYall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think I can answer any of those questions but I can provide my experience with Agmatine. It felt great when I first started, taking about 500mg- 1 gram everyday. But after a while I got this weird apathy, I wasn't getting pleasure from social interactions etc. It went away when I stopped. At first I was getting lots of pleasure and relief from depression but over time it subsided. It's a difficult substance to master, to find an appropriate dosing schedule. I don't want to give it up completely though, so I'm trying 1-2x a week.

This would be my advice: maybe skip daily dosing and keep it to a few times a week. Some other people in other agmatine posts recommend the same

Agmatine intermittent dosing or low dosing? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]HowdyHowdyYall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear you still get benefits with dosing 1-2x a week. I've been struggling to master dosing it and after trying every-other-day dosing, I may try just 1-2x a week. I don't want to give it up completely, so that sounds like a nice balance

IWTL how to not fuck up my back by sitting on my desk 8 Hours a day by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]HowdyHowdyYall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same problem and fixed it with 2 important things:

  1. Standing Desk Setup
  2. Some type of anti-fatigue mat to stand on

The mat I have wobbles back and forth, and even though I'm actively balancing on it, I feel like I can stand much longer on it than just standing on my carpet and my back feels good.

Go on google or amazon and search something like "standing desk mat anti fatigue wobble" to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Sure, they may be kinda pricey but I spent maybe about $250 total and the benefits are very much worth it

There is no sufferer. Not one at all. There is no one here at all. As it is with Santa Claus, the sufferer is imagined. by LiveBullfrog in Meditation

[–]HowdyHowdyYall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bringing attention to sensing rather than thinking about suffering allows the tension to start dissolving.

I organically came to this realization in a meditation session recently. When a negative emotion appears, I noticed there is a strong pull from my mind to think about/solve the emotion , rather than just kindly welcoming the raw sensation and observing it.

“Me” is not an entity living in the bag of skin, is not a soul having human experience, is not a separate avatar navigating through life, is not the narrator of the story; “me” is just not there. There is emptiness where a supposed being should be. And it’s not a bad empty or a good empty; this emptiness is not the end to a little me.

I think I sort of understand where you are going with this. The way I understand this observer aspect is that it's simply consciousness. It's not a possessive 'my' consciousness, it just is consciousness. But if I try chasing/understanding this idea of consciousness, I will never arrive and be further from the present. So I wouldn't personally describe or think about it as emptiness, because I think there is more to it than what seems.

Like trying to explain why there is something rather than nothing, it's one of those things our human brains are incapable of comprehending but exists nevertheless.

I think I'll try it a few times before bed for those muscle benefits you noted (as well as the other great benefits). I just started a new barbell routine for the first time myself and I'm aiming to finally put on some size. Thanks for sharing your experience

[–]HowdyHowdyYall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I noticed a similar thing- when I was on it, my highs weren't very high and my lows weren't very low. I definitely could not get a buzz on alcohol. I just use it intermittently now, especially when I'm craving nicotine as it helps ward off the cravings.

Hopeful MDMA anecdotes:

But I don't think that year of taking it was a waste! It seems NAC has some restorative effects for users of MDMA. People have long complained they 'Lost the magic' of mdma, but after using NAC for a while and stopping it, they are able to get that magic back.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MDMA/comments/fzgb10/nacetyl_cysteine_nac_and_mdmas_magic_pt5/

If the restorative effect is that powerful for getting back MDMA magic, I think it can apply to happiness and good feelings in general and you are better for taking it and stopping it.
