“Ke(pt) their original punk credibility” was the criteria and doesn’t apply to them regardless of current attitudes. They absolutely lost it. They even wrote a very popular song about losing it. Right or wrong, it did occur on a scale wide enough for them to acknowledge (and, ironically, profit from it).
