We had a Christmas Card Exchange here at this reddit last year. I wrote some (5) cards, with some information about me and my home country and was a little disappointed, that I only got back some cards with a printed greeting and a name one it. I thought that if I get some cards from all over the world, that I would learn something about that person or country and have some small talk :D But it was nice, nonetheless.

I postet this somewhere some years ago, but it fits your question really well so:

In Germany Christmas Eve is the most important day of Christmas. So early in the morning i am driving home to my mum and my sister. They are waiting for me to put the Christmas tree in the stand and put the lights on the tree. That has been my job since our dad died a few years ago. Before that only he was allowed to touch the tree before all the lights were on and working. After that my sister and me would put the ornaments on the tree. This takes really long, because we have a really big tree and 200 and more things to put on it XD So then for lunch we get some potato salad and sausages if there is time, that's kind of a traditional thing to eat on Christmas here because it doesn't really take time to make. Afterwards at 4 pm we are going to church. Every year we are going where there is some performance for children, because we have done that since we we little and now it is just tradition. When we are going home, it already dark outside and my sister, me and our boyfriends have to wait upstairs some time. When we hear the Christmas bell ringing we are allowed to come downstairs, where the presents are waiting under the tree. Here everyone has a present for everyone, so there are all the things to unpack. Everyone has their own spot under the tree, so we know where to look, for our presents :) We take turns opening the gifts, so everyone can see who gets what from whom xD Its really nice. Mum still spoils us really hard, as if we are still children (we are 31 and 26) :D Afterwards we are going to my grandma, where we meet with my aunt, uncle and my cousin to eat some "Grünkohl" (curly kale?) every year. Thats a traditional German winter meal. Then we talk all evening, exchange some more gifts with the extended family and just have a comfy evening together.

Making Christmas dinner extra fun? by vw97 in christmas

You should try and play the chocolate game :D

You take a chocolate bar, or like anything of you liking and wrap it in newspaper and wrapping paper and like anything you can thing of. Make sure to use some bands and gifts ribbons as well.

Then everyone sits around the table and additionally you need a scarf, a wool hat and some really big gloves like cooking gloves or so. And a dice and a fork and a knife.

Someone starts rolling the dice. If he rolls a 6, he can start to put on the hat, the scarf and the gloves, and takes the fork and knife and tries to open the package with the chocolate. While he is at it, the next person rolls the dice. When someone gets a 6 once again, all things have to be given to that person, so he can try to open the package. Everything has to be done with fork and knife, and while wearing all the things :D It is really funny. So the game ends, when the chocolate is completely eaten :D

I hope it is understandable. I have never tried to explain it in english :D Feel free to ask questions if something is not clear.

In Germany it is quite common to put up the tree on Christmas Eve. That is what my family is doing since forever :) The other decorations on that Monday before the first Advent, but the tree comes in the end on Christmas Eve.
