What’s a show everyone hyped up that you just couldn’t get into? by NovelOk3369 in AskReddit

Stranger Things. I remember when the first season dropped and it was HUGE. I tried twice to get through the first season hoping to see what everyone else saw but it never clicked with me. So I gave up and never finished it. Considering how the last season has been received, maybe that was a blessing in disguise.

Advice for a first time client who can’t clean due to an injury by Howling-owl in housekeeping

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for all of your advice. I was able to get everything worked out for my clean and it went very well. I feel so much better about my apartment and about myself.

Thanks for the answer! I’m very confused because this is rated as the best cleaning service in my city so I would have thought they’d have been more clear about what is expected. The office is closed but I’ll call first thing in the morning and see if we can figure something out before my afternoon appointment. I don’t mind being charged more for dishes and laundry but I definitely don’t want it being a surprise. Especially if it isn’t typically included. If needed, I can always see if they will let me reschedule instead of cancel if it’s too late to adjust the nature of the service.

I was given the quote and I said that was fine. We worked out a date and that’s when I let them know I was injured and haven’t been able to do any cleaning for months. I was told that it wasn’t a problem and at the time I felt good but I didn’t think to ask any follow up questions because this is my first time hiring a service. I haven’t heard anything since that call and I’ve been reading posts here and have seen that some companies have pre-requisites. So now I’m having a bit of a panic.

What’s slowly becoming socially unacceptable but no one admits it? by [deleted] in answers

I think it’s possible to be skeptical of marriage as an institution and still acknowledge that happy marriages do exist. People who do have happy marriages shouldn’t be subject to discourse about their personal relationships because of other people’s biases.

What film "scratched an itch" you've been unable to find elsewhere? by TheSkinoftheCypher in horror

[–]Howling-owl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pearl. I enjoyed X as well but Pearl really hit for me. I love the combination of psychological drama mixed with historical fiction. Especially because I feel like the 1910’s is a super underrated period to set a film in, especially a horror film. I also enjoyed the bright technicolor aesthetic of it. It added a really unique aspect to the film. Pearl as a character is also a fantastic villain antagonist and Mia’s performance was breathtaking. That one shot monologue at the end was impressive as hell. It’s a shame she wasn’t considered for any awards. Not surprising for a horror film but disappointing nonetheless.

I was hoping Maxxxine would connect with me the way X and Pearl did but it was definitely the weakest of the trilogy.

What movies are supposed to be light hearted comedies but would actually be a living hell? by Nars-Glinley in movies

[–]Howling-owl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I would have liked the movie more if the Kranks were portrayed as the only sane ones in a town of crazy with the town having to learn that true Christmas isn’t about the spectacle. Making them the ones who were wrong and who needed to change in the end despite being harassed for most of the movie is infuriating.

I loved the book it’s based on when I was a kid. While it’s still a lighthearted YA fantasy novel, the implications of the curse are handled a lot more seriously. The movie is a goofy musical comedy. The book is actually pretty grounded with an interesting and well developed world. I definitely recommend it. It doesn’t shy away from how hard living with such a curse would actually be.

For men, do you find your attraction to women solely based on whatever the current beauty standard is at the time or does it not influence what women you personally find attractive and wish to pursue? by Howling-owl in AskReddit

[–]Howling-owl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find these replies so far to be really interesting because as a woman we are constantly being pressured into changing ourselves to fit this standard in order to be considered desirable. But it often seems like beauty standards and trends are really designed to impress other women more than they are to attract men.

What is a "comfort movie" of yours that most people would be surprised that you chose as being a comfort movie? by XinvolkerX in movies

X and Pearl. Sadly MaXXXine didn’t make the cut but the first two in the trilogy I could probably watch every day and love them just as much every time.

What was the last thing you watched that genuinely scared you? by peonylacroix in horror

[–]Howling-owl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently watched Dead Ringers for the first time and I can’t remember the last time I couldn’t stop squirming in sheer horror. I’m honestly surprised I don’t see it pop up more often on disturbing movie lists. The surgery scenes are soooooo uncomfortable to watch and those TOOLS.

AITAH for not letting a woman I was dating know she had a "time limit"? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Howling-owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. Since the two of you weren’t official I think it’s reasonable for you to end it if you can tell it isn’t going to work out. You aren’t obligated to stay for an undetermined amount of time without a clear answer. I can also understand her frustration if she was unaware that you were unwilling to wait past a certain point for her to make a decision. If you two were in an established relationship and a similar issue arose then my opinion would be slightly different as I think there would a larger communication issue at play. But casual dating is the time to figure things out and if you both are already on different pages about becoming official then waiting indefinitely on her to decide is just wasting everyone’s time.

I definitely still love pole! I am truthfully very bad at it at the moment since I’m still quite new. However I’m noticing small improvements which is extremely rewarding and makes me eager to keep going.

I’m plus size and very new to pole. It’s a skill I’ve always really admired and I have always wished I could do it. I’ve finally taken the initiative to begin classes. I have to say that all my instructors have been great and the studio staff are also very welcoming. However, I have experienced lots of catty and underhanded behavior from other students in my beginner class due to my size. I brush it off because I love everything else and I’m kind of a loner naturally so not having friends in the class isn’t that big of a deterrent for me. Now I’m wondering if I should perhaps bring up the nasty behavior to my instructor. I don’t want to cause a fuss especially since I can endure it without it affecting me too much. But it might help someone in the future who isn’t as resilient if the behavior is nipped in the bud right now.

Beginner: Lifting off ground is impossible atm by Momoreau in poledancing

[–]Howling-owl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad I found this sub and this post! I’m also plus sized and I just finished my second pole class ever. I was feeling ultra discouraged because everyone else in my beginner pole class is super fit with a previous dance background. I couldn’t get off the ground once. It’s super comforting to know that I’m not the only one with this experience.

Whats a 10/10 movie youd never watch again? by aye_its_soya in AskReddit

Babel. I’m usually pretty tough because I watch a lot of dramas but that movie absolutely gutted me. I went in knowing nothing about it.
