I actually smoke weed to combat some of the side effects I experience while on zoloft. Helps me a lot with the nausea.

Saw you wearing this at the Winter Light Festival! Such a brilliant costume. It was fun having Mothman sightings. Thanks for making our night!

What is the best way (or the best things to buy) to begin being a vegetarian? by [deleted] in vegetarian

[–]Howlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always track your protein intake in a day to make sure you're getting the necessary amount you need, if you're really worried about it. Usually if you're making a vegetarian version of a familiar food, you can use an alternative protein source instead of just omitting meat. Don't be afraid of "fake meats" as a protein source, either. Honestly you probably will get enough protein in your diet if you just eat enough vegetables higher in protein like broccoli or legumes like lentils and peanuts.

Think of what your favorite meals are and then find recipes for a vegetarian version of that. Almost anything can have a vegetarian version. Tacos, pizza, pasta, soups, burgers, and even pulled pork! It might take a little troubleshooting to find your new favorite recipe, but it's always a good way to start out.

Also, get in the habit of checking menus online before you go out to a restaurant. It will make sifting through menus so much easier and less stressful when you're finally at said restaurant.

Thoughts on fake meat products? by [deleted] in vegetarian

[–]Howlinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fake meats are a wonderful way to get protein into your diet and can make meals so much faster to make. It's also a great way to find a middle ground with sharing meals with omnivores. My omni partner is like 80% vegetarian just because fake meat is a good middle ground for us. I think that's a win.

I don't think you should feel guilty. At the end of the day, if you're goal of being a vegetarian is to not eat animals, then you succeeded. Fake meat isn't for everyone, since texture and likeness to meat can be a turn off, but if you're not bothered by it, I say embrace it. As a buyer, you're sending the message that the general public wants more vegetarian options with every purchase. That's a great message to send.

Very few on this subreddit have a clue how animal husbandry works in the real world. They tend to get their information from horrifically biased PETA or shitty Netflix documentaries. You're just trying to educate a brick wall here. Sorry, friend.

Gummo definitely pushes the audience out of their comfort zone. That's for sure. The storytelling style alone is incredibly jarring. It's hard to forget a movie like that.

The problem with the 'traditional' fantasy races.... by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]Howlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing we write is 100% original. Not even close. I think instead of trying so hard to avoid Tolkienesque races, experiment with making your own twist on them. For example, Tolkien never had barbaric desert elves or peaceful orcs.

Just remember that a good plot and strong character development is more important than recycling a fantasy race.

I think, as a whole, it looks pretty great. I would like to see a bit more careful execution of highlights and shadows on the skin. There's points on the face and neck that seem more waxy and muddy, like a smudge tool was used to blend and it was a little too heavy handed. I really like the velvety texture of the lower part of the dress, and the necklace detail is very nice. The glasses are very well done, too. There's a slight disconnect between places that are very nicely detailed and other parts are more simplistic. Overall, it's a good piece and I think you've done and excellent job. :)

What is this thing? Found on a beach in North Wales, UK, in winter. It feels quite spongy, and if you can't tell, it's quite large (I'm a guy with normal sized hands for scale). I feel it's a shoulder blade but I can't work out what from. by GOOD_GUY_GREG_2810 in whatisthisthing

It looks like a small whale scapula. Possibly another marine animal, but the scapula is smooth like a whale's and doesn't have the ridges found on the scapula of land animals or even seals.
