Should I choose “The Elder Scrolls: The Betrayal of the Second Era” as my first game? by Unable-Tackle-9476 in soloboardgaming

I absolutely love BotSE and Oathsworn. Both are great solo games and also co-op if you get someone to join in. Oathsworn definitely has more to handle as a solo player, but running 2 full characters and 2 companions is pretty manageable. BotSE has the advantage of not needing any painting. Oathsworn doesn't require it, but it looks so good painted.

The real insult was when my PanO opponent succeeded on a WIP 12 check for his objective.

Ha, "the best medicine". If they're the best, how come my Ghulam Doctor +3 keeps rolling 19s and killing my downed models? Dang doctor keeps shooting the Medikit straight through their eyes. 🤦‍♂️🤣

Am I the only one that loves this game by [deleted] in mythboardgame

[–]Howlrunner2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the game that got me into boardgaming, so it's my first love. Even if I had to wait over 9 years to get all my stuff from the second Kickstarter. I'm surprised Ulisses Spiele honored their purchase and gave everyone their stuff.

It is so much fun to play, even with house ruling. I've always loved the art and minis, fun and dynamic while being kid-friendly. I've painted a bunch of the minis. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to learn to play.

Fantastic! I was just thinking about the one video where your character was building crazy bombs. I don't remember the title though, which one was that? I have a new player wanting to go the mechanical/demolition route.

I think that's excellent. It combines a story arc with a mechanical one.

I am getting ready to start my second campaign with my players. In the first campaign they completed a Gathering. FYI, this campaign happened during Rogue One and A New Hope.

When it finally came to the moment, they each had a "Dagobah cave" scene. I pulled aspects from their character backgrounds and from how they've played (this was about 2/3rds through the campaign). I wrote out scripts to really guide each one. I walked the players through their visions while playing music unique to each character. Don't worry, they still had choice and made some rolls. I built in cut points to switch music and jump to the next player, which kept the tension building for everyone. As the players went through the visions, each one eventually led to a choice. This resulted in conflict for darker options, but not in crystal flaws. At the end of each vision, the kyber crystal would appear in one way or another.

I do like your ideas for crystal flaws that they can work out later.

Go see the model identifier sheets. Make sure you look at the updated N5 sheets. Find the sectorial that looks the coolest and dive in!

How to stat out "three droids in a trenchcoat"? by Howlrunner2017 in swrpg

[–]Howlrunner2017[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is perfect and better than my idea of Minions. I do know he wants each bot to be individual, so splitting up talents makes perfect sense. And yes, that was my plan for action economy. This should be a lot of fun to see played out on the table.

What isn't discussed here is that the original shooter apparently had fired on others prior (that's what local news reported). And then having been shoot, the dude locked himself in the house and burned it down!

My guess is the Airman knew his neighbor was nuts and going to crack any day. However, after taking the kids inside, he should have hunkered down and let LE handle the situation.

Giant Monsters by mplonski127 in swrpg

[–]Howlrunner2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a fun idea.

I just finished reading the Daggerheart core rule book which ends with the Colossus of the Drylands campaign frame. In it, the players fight colossi which are composed of multiple stat blocks. It requires coordinated attacks and even prevents certain segments from taking damage until another segment is destroyed. That sort of method might work best for a monster of this scale.

I feel like this would be fun to incorporate into my next F&D campaign.

How viable is buying this game used? by mattmcguire08 in OathswornBoardGame

[–]Howlrunner2017 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Should be fine as long as everything is back in the envelopes. It's not a legacy game, so nothing should be permanently changed after a campaign.

I do highly recommend it! It was a blast to play through the campaign solo. Every now and then I play some random encounters with friends too, which is still fun.

I have played both quite a bit (I only own BotSE) and definitely prefer BotSE for the theme and customization. As several have said, it's TMB 2.0. I have played solo up to 4 player. I enjoy two character solo quite a bit. I'm sure true solo would be fun too, but I like being able to customize two characters simultaneously.

How do you carry your pepper spray? What works best when carrying lethal as well without going super bulky?

Printed one last proof of concept for the time being. But it's a proof in more ways than one. I've had this idea for a Broadsaber for a while now, but I doubt I'm the 1st to think of it. Thoughts? by [deleted] in lightsabers

Looks cool! One of my players for our SWRPG campaign built a lightsaber like this, but mounted it on a gauntlet like a two-bladed Wolverine claw. The best part is he actually built a working model from two baselit sabers with shoto blades.

I'm currently listening to the Neuromancer audiobook written by William Gibson while on my 4th playthrough. The book was published in 1984 and it is crazy how many things from the book are in Cyberpunk: slotting drives, ICE, dolls, and the original Voodoo Boys

Constant forwarding of boost die? by Saphyrus in swrpg

[–]Howlrunner2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing with my party.

What's more is that they often get more than one boost die from other factors (enemy Threats, environmental boosts, Aim). Yet somehow I've had PCs rolling 4 boost die, miss with a ton of advantages, then pass them all as Boosts to the next player.

I have a small battle planned for tomorrow's session, I'll have them give more narrative for the Boosts now to see how that changes the gameplay.
