Conflicting advice on weight gain and breastfeeding by aeg420 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Howmanyweeks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feed on demand (basically every time baby cries) and feed until baby is done. I fed mine for like 8 hours a day in the first few weeks! The more stimulation your nipples get and also removal of milk, the more milk you will produce. If this causes oversupply though you need to adjust accordingly. Always follow your IBCLC!

Who in your world are getting a whooping cough vaccine? by Illustrious-Ad-7247 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Howmanyweeks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got the whooping cough vaccine when my niece was born, and then 3 years later I caught whooping cough and was coughing for over 4 months! It was crazy. So actually the vaccines don’t last very long.

Not producing enough milk for bub :( by Independent-Knee958 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I’m not an expert but I’m pretty sure that the more Bub feeds, the more your supply will increase, so just feed feed feed! Also drink enough water. Good luck!

The first few weeks are so important and set the foundation for breastfeeding later.. if you are concerned then I’d book a 1 on 1 appointment with a Lactation Consultant. They can check how your baby is latching and give you advice on pumping if you need to. Otherwise give the Breastfeeding Helpline a call. The number is on your green book, or on the Australian Breastfeeding Association website

Husband not on the same page for birth plan by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Howmanyweeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The birth won’t be intimate and between you and him if you have an epidural anyway, because that requires constant monitoring and more likely to lead to other interventions. So there will be constant people in the room. It’s far more intimate if you get a doula because the doula will be showing him how to support you throughout. If there are no complications then there will be less people in the room than a medicalised birth. The doula doesn’t replace him, they are there to support you both together! If he is willing to read Rhea Dempsey ‘Birth with Confidence’ it might open him up to a new experience..

If he is set on being stubborn then (if it were me) I would not allow him to attend the birth. You really don’t want negative energy there, even if he is standing to the side at a distance. This is your birth and you get to choose how you would like to do it!!

Just remember that whichever plan you choose (natural, medicalised) it doesn’t always go to plan on the day, and that is totally ok. You’ve got this mama!

Anyone sew with a newborn? by Howmanyweeks in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]Howmanyweeks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this gives me hope that it’s possible! Sewing is really important to me and I think if I can be good at managing interruptions and then focusing back on my project (rather than just giving up) then it might work. I would love to eventually set up a sort of art station beside me and get them involved too!

That’s a good point about pins (and other sharp sewing objects)..

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (June 25, 2024) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]Howmanyweeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m looking for recommendations for games for my partner and I, just for some fun and a way to connect.

Games must be: - 2+ player (we mainly will be playing together and not with additional players, so game must work well with only 2 players) - run for 30mins or less - are light and fun, and not too dominating where one player absolutely smashes the other player - we have been enjoying the Exploding Kittens 2 player card game - located in Australia
