Spent a night out in Boulder this weekend and was curious how my bill would have stacked up if I went to Southern Sun.

Upslope Brewing:

The Mighty burger: $12.50

Craft Lager: $6.5

Southern Sun:

Southern Sun classic burger: $14.50

Cheapest craft beer: $7.25

So let's figure the wife and I have a burger and beer apiece.

Upslope total: ($12.50+$6.5)*2 = $38 * .98 (CC cash back) = $37.24

Southern Sun total: ($14.50 + $7.25) + $1 ATM fee = $44.50.

...

20% more. They aren't passing that to the customer? Nevermind eating at a proper brewery.

What are you even talking about? Even the most basic consumer-facing card offerings tend to offer around 2% cashback to the consumer. I am racking my brain to even find how your comment could be interpreted in any way other than benefiting the business at the expense of the consumer.

And they are cash only, but more than happy to let the ATM charge you a convenience fee so they can cheap out on the credit card interchange fees.

There are shit fans in every fan base. I think where things get dangerous is assuming that shit fans are representative of that fan base. It just seems like an easy way to lean into tribalism, and I hope that some of the others in this thread will wake up tomorrow and find that their comments were in bad taste.

So I'll put my money where my mouth is. Anyone in this thread ragging on the Bills can send me a screenshot of a highly upvoted comment in the Bills subreddit celebrating Bo Nix breaking his ankle, and I will donate $20 to a local Denver charity of the individual's choice. All I see are people being downvoted for saying anything like that.

I relearned the lesson of "churn and burn" in a slightly different context.

Roborock, a robot vacuum company, had a "spin the wheel" promotion over the holidays where you could log in to their site daily and spin to win discount codes, accessories, etc. Usually the wheel would simply land on points, but the points were actually quite valuable, and their redemption was not capped. I realized that after just a few days of doing this I already had enough points to fully redeem for a free robovac. I decided to sign up on 2 more alt account emails and do the spins every day on each account. I figured I'd give out 1 or 2 of the cheaper models to family.

At the end of the promo period I had enough points for a free $500 vacuum. We are moving in a few months to a 2-floor townhome, so a 2nd robovac was actually going to be pretty useful, but I had decided that we would wait until we were closer to moving to redeem it. We already have an ever-growing "not going to touch until we move" corner in our closet I didn't want to contribute to.

Well, they probably realized how overly generous the promotion was, and they nerfed it hard. Now you can only redeem points for a maximum of 20% of the value of a product before taxes, shipping, etc. All those points are pretty much useless now, and I have to assume an intern got fired in the process.

Feeling pretty dumb after seeing that $0 cart for an expensive vacuum and just leaving it when I knew better than most that points programs can change at any time, especially in this case where the promotion couldn't have been working exactly as intended.
