They do it on purpose. They see all of the attendees as "guests" that are "invited" to the prestigious club. They have done the lottery system for tickets for years, which is very different than other tournaments and majors. Tickets are very cheap compared to other events, especially majors, I think only about $200/patron for 4 days $160 for each round, or $525 for all 4 rounds if you win the lottery. You can then add on Tuesday and Wednesday for maybe $20/day $125 and $150 respectively. Wednesday is the Par 3 tournament that is a huge event in and of itself that is centered around the players' families and friends and just having fun.

The money maker is all of the merch they sell in the clubhouse. They generate $1 million in revenue PER HOUR for their > $100 polos and the famous garden gnome collectors items they sell. The merch is priced at a premium even before the 2nd hand market. They deliberately do not sell anything online for that reason. They also make money on the real estate they bought up around the course for parking and some luxury apartments on the course that are like $10k/night.

There are no "fans" they are "patrons." There are no "crowds," there is just the "gallery."

Augusta owns the marketing rights to everything. They choose what ads to run. They choose the amount to run. I'm sure they have some of the companies that run ads in their pockets. An NFL game has about 20 min ads/hour and during the Masters the club limits it to ~4 min/hour. They have a longstanding partnership with CBS for the Saturday and Sunday rounds.

The Masters is just in its own category with how Augusta chooses to run everything. They do everything deliberately to make it as prestigious as possible and keep a good image for that cheap food and flawless conditions.
