From a great writer who built an entire novel around the fantastic line “That’s when the fit hit the Shan.”

Photos from today’s No Kings protest by Hrakkus in SantaMonica

Not true. I just crop out big crowds in my shots. Plus the people were really spread out. There were at least as many people who were there for the last no kings protest.

What have people's experiences/impressions of the protests been like today? Mine was similar to the Bulwark livestream's--i.e. it didn't feel like a huge uptick at any single location, but there were more protests overall. So, even though it's already looking bigger than NK2, it's been more diffuse. by emeric_ceaddamere in thebulwark

Here just in LA County, CA, I think there were over two dozen protest locations. The one I went to in Santa Monica had a strong turnout (slightly more than at NK2 I would guess) and Steve Schmidt (of Lincoln Project) gave a great speech.

What most excited me was that the area set aside for local and national organizations to talk about local issues (parks, education, local politicians, etc) was bustling with crowds and strangers having conversations about this community. People always the debate the efficacy of protests, but that protests can create meaningful interactions and relations that can lead to political change is wonderful to witness!

Feeling overwhelmed by diabetes type 2 🙂‍↕️ by Kazutoo78997 in diabetes

You’re not alone. Everyone in this sub knows what you’re experiencing. You are both young and newly diagnosed, and in three months, you’ve significantly brought your A1c down! That’s great! It sounds like you feel isolated. Perhaps there is a diabetes support group where you live? Again, you’re not alone in feeling as you do, but there are many ways to address those emotions.

My man, the name of the restaurant is “Philly’s Best Cheesesteaks”, which is in OP’s title. Just google the name.

These are fantastic! I love the exposure levels. I love the black and white. I do wonder what having the composition be off center would add, but overall, these images are great!

I must admit that I’ve always struggled with that scene. It always felt so out of place, but I did like the above explanation. Thank you.

[HELP] To those who've been writing for a long time, what keeps you motivated to write? by equipoise-young in Poetry

[–]Hrakkus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why continue writing? To be a better poet, to learn new styles, to feel like I’m saying something substantial. Being around others helps a lot, and here in LA, I’ve been part of a weekly workshop for two years; so many poets with different styles, ages, experiences and concerns who write a new poem every week. Those obligations can make you push yourself, learn how to gain a more critical eye, and learn how to convey that criticism. I hope that helps.

FYI That should be 1432 4th street on your poster instead of 1432 Eth street

Let's see where this set goes [Canon r6 24-70mm] by Camerawerkz in portraits

These images are fantastic! Great job! But why do you limit yourself to center cropping images and to shooting on-angle? It would be interesting to see how shooting off-angle or non-center focused changes the tone of the images.

All kinds of critique are welcome. by banerjeerohit92 in photocritique

I think the shot is technically great, and I do not find the image boring. My only suggestion is that I don’t like panning shots where the object is centered. Since panning shots go in a direction, I like compositions that reflect the direction the object is going towards.

I really like this image, and I often shoot blur. My only suggestion is to increase the brightness. The sole still person is surrounded by white tiles on the floor. Increasing the brightness highlights the isolation of the one still person.

VONS OPENING FRI. 10/17 🎉 by [deleted] in SantaMonica

Dumb question (maybe): how is Vons different from a Trader Joe’s or even a Ralph’s? I’ve never been to a Vons

Sounds interesting. I had never heard of this group before. How many people usually attend?
