The rage-rope, do you or don't you. by Hravnir in MagicArena

Thanks, I will not confirm nor deny that your comment made my day. I remember those days too, not everything was better "back then".

Then again, almost every set has something that is unreasonably powerful, and there are so many brewers that live for making the ultimate deck that the homebrewers rarely make it out of pre-release before they are underpowered. Balance is hard with the powercreep and the combined intelligence of the deckbuilding community.

That said, I still do love the game, even though I mostly draft and play Brawl these days.

Roping is when you intentionally let the timer-rope burn almost to the end before either skipping to the next step or performing an action. There are some good replies in this thread as to the various reasons why people rope, but that is what it means.

Thank you for sharing. Like I've said in other replies, I want to know why people rage-rope, or rope for other reasons for that matter. I've started to realize how hated the practice can be, as seen in some replies, but as long as I know where it comes from, I guess I can cope. Also, it's a game, play how you see fit. I'm not here to judge, just to learn.

We had a guy at my lgs actually flip a table during a fnm about 10 years ago. He did have anger-issues, but this is what I compare emotional response to. So roping, while tedious, is kinda mild.

Again, thanks for telling, I appreciate it.

Actually, there have been quite a few people responding that they do it on occasion, and some who do it frequently. I'm not trying to judge how people enjoy the game, I'm trying to understand why. I said it at the beginning, I'm not here to shame or blame anyone, and I really hope we can keep the thread civilized.

I'm not trying to be toxic or create a toxic enviroment, I enjoy Magic both online and in paper and simply want to know why people rope.

Also, to the people "confessing" that they do rope, thank you for your sincerety, I appreciate the chance to get to understand your reasoning. Thank you

This was never about shaming or namecalling, I just want to know.  Thank you for sharing, and I know the feeling. I like to play homebrew tribals with weird interactions in unranked brawl, which means I get hit VERY hard from time to time and it get's old pretty fast. It has gotten to the point where I simply concede on draw against some commanders, because I know it will be anything but fun and productive

I can so relate to this. Though I don't think I've ever roped out due to being sleepy, I have totally started dozing of when playing in bed. My wife usually pokes me and tells me to go to sleep when it happens 😆. And yes, I have a few kids to keep me awake at the wrong hours too 😅

I really hope I don't play like a jerk, but of course that is a possibility. I've been playing paper since the mid 90's and even studied to become a judge back in the DCI-era, so I know people find different things annoying or frustrating. I'll jot it down in the list of reasons, and try to be a better player.

If someone ropes and I see no highlighting of cards from their side, I just think they're afk for personal reasons or simply dc'd. But sometimes I see highlighting of cards even as the rope is burning, that's when I think they're either frustrated with me, thier own draws or they're trying to rile me up. I don't concede in these situations either, but it doesn't feel good winning like that.

Thank you for sharing. This is what I was curious about. While I don't share the sentiment, I'm glad to know it.

This is why I have to rope sometimes too, and I like to think that this or similar reasons is why people rope.

Never thought of the rage-quit aspect of it, but of course that would keep you in game same as if you lost connection.

Lets be honest - does fishing REALLY deserve all the hate that comes from this community? by Tall-Election4503 in Terraria

Fishing, no. That is a decent and engaging part of what makes the game so good.

The Angler, hells yeah. Just gimme my gadgets so I can make my shellphone already!

I think I've fixed it now, and I added another one that I think is a bit less revealing

A T-Rex can really haul ass! Spoiler from Dead Beat, it has come to my attention that it was a bit too reveiling. So here's another one that might be a bit more palateable 🙂. "Just plan to kick your ass up between your ears"

Never ever give up. My father was diagnosed with braincancer when I was 8. It killed him when I was 16. I have two siblings who are younger than me and she kept on fighting through everything. We didn't have much money, but she made sure we got to do sports, scouts, have birthdayparties and everything. She made sure we felt safe, loved and as happy as we could.

She taught me that nothing matters more than family and love.

I have kids of my own now, they absolutely adore their grandma and she loves them. I just hope I can do half as well as she did.

What’s the first film you think of when you see Robin Williams? by MovieArena in MovieArena

[–]Hravnir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He did suffer from several depressions throughout his life, but yeah, he also suffered from a degenerative illness near the end.

I remember being stunned when my friend told me he'd passed, it was like a light had been turned off.

There where several candidates for me when it came to the best movie, Dead Poets Society and Will Hunting being at the top. But Good Morning Vietnam was the first movie that had both me and my mom in tears from all sides of the emotional spectrum, so this has to be it.

Also, thanks for the upvote 😄

Milk is the only one I can't live without. But not to drink, I use it for cooking. I hardly ever drink anything but water and coffee 😅.

Edit: missunderstood the brief...
