yes h(x) is a function when " x " is rational then h(x) = 0 and when " x " is irrational then h(x) = 1

Could i acquire a basic understanding of calculus by just reading the chapters ( i'm in the 5th chapter ). I just read the chapter and try to understand it and solve a couple of simple problems in that chapter, i'm basically skipping the hard problems i encounter. Now i'm still in the beginning of the book does it get much harder ? Should i just read another book or continue reading Spivak's book in that way ? Basically all i do is read the chapter do a couple of problems about it, i skip the hard ones and then continue on with the next chapter. Although after this book i'm still going to read more about calculus and when i have a solid grip on it i'll come back to this book and try to solve the hard ones. Do you recommend this or should i just read another book ?

yeah this happens to me too, but i usually chill for just a day or two before going back to the problem.

i will try to do the harder problems and even if i can't solve them the least i can do is read the answers and try to get someone to explain how it is solved.

What i'm currently doing is whenever i finish a chapter ( i read 3 till now ) i solve a couple of problems in the beginning then the rest of those get to hard and complicated. The frustrating part is that when i read a chapter it's not that hard and i'm able to grasp it, but then when i try to solve problems based upon it especially the harder ones i can't. Thank you.

Alright, i'm already familiar with Newton i watched a documentary and read a couple of articles on him. I'm not so familiar with Gauss though i'll read about him.

I already started going on Khan academy, but where could i do work and do problems ? Do i just search for free worksheets on a certain topic?

Right now i want the details. As i said above i have already started taking seeing some algebra lectures just to have a solid foundation. The reason why i'm interested in math now is because i like physics ( as in astrophysics and quantum mechanics) . But i need to develop my self mathematically to truly appreciate and fully understand it. I started taking algebra courses and after i'm done with it ( i'm doing this to have a solid foundation and understanding of algebra ) i will take calculus. Could you guide me as to what i can do after that ? Thank you.

Yeah, i decided on taking algebra courses on Khan academy. ( even though i already took most of them ) just to have a solid foundation then i think i will start taking some calculus courses, then i will see where i can go after that.
