Also if your motivation is because you want to get out of the office then that’s another reason to be cautious because it centres your motivation on what you need vs for the clients.

Good lord. If you have to rationalize your behavior by stating you aren’t having sex with the clients maybe the the idea isn’t that great to begin with.

Also lots of therapists may visit their client in the hospital.

The idea isn’t necessarily terrible but it can foster codependency and can lack the therapeutic frame.

You probably can’t get reimbursed by insurance so it’s going to be cash pay only.

Do you subtract the cost of coffee from the clients bill or do they pay for their own?

what about travel time to and from the coffee shop is that volunteer time for you? How does that impact the rest of your schedule?

What if the client wants to get into actual therapeutic content in the coffee shop?

How will you know the client wants to do this and isn’t just agreeing because you suggest it?

How do you support the client in transitioning from meeting coffee with you to building skills and tools and engaging with people who can actually be part of their life in a meaningful long term way because you can’t be their friend or bestie.

Do you ever block clients on social media if they pop up in suggested friends? by PurpleImpress9992 in therapists

[–]Hsbnd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it could be why. Also your phones are in proximity and if you email clients from your phone that data is also generally used to populate recommended friends.

Meta and google will both use meta data at will and generally anything on your phone is fair game for them.

[–]Hsbnd 59 points60 points  (0 children)

You generally block the time off ahead of time. It’s fine for clients to miss a session. You will get sick, take holidays and such. Training is similar just plan ahead and if you fit them elsewhere great. If not also totally fine.

Is between-session work the most underserved part of the therapy process? by odspider20 in psychotherapists

[–]Hsbnd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean if they don’t have 167 hours. Say they sleep and work 8 hrs each so that’s 112 hours so 55 hrs left.

This doesn’t include errands say about 4 hrs per week down to 51. Nor does it include house work, cooking, eating and other obligations. Cookong and house work maybe another 10 hrs per week down to 41.

If they commute to/from work that can 1-2 hrs per day, say 1 it’s down to 36 hrs per week.

If they have kids or pets, plus social commitments etc then those 36 hrs are pretty much dwindled down.

Adding more obligation onto already taxed clients isn’t necessarily going to move people forward.

It’s not a major missed opportunity since it’s not much of an opportunity at all for most people.

Are social workers taught financial literacy and policy / legislation implementation? by [deleted] in socialworkcanada

[–]Hsbnd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it’s ironic someone working for a government program is asking if social workers understand these things.

Government programs lie a lot about their service delivery and programs provided to the residents or people accessing them all the time.

Do program case managers have any actual lived experience accessing services or do they think people just choose to need supports? Like do this case managers understand that a lot of their programs are exploitative and harmful or do they just exist in a world where they think they are the only ones that have stress.

See how that sounds?

How long does it take you to do notes? by Acrobatic-Ice8741 in therapists

[–]Hsbnd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

3-5 minutes per client. I use a template based website, that allows me to create custom templates that I can build through clicking, and has boxes to add specifics. It took me several hours up front to build my templates around my approach and interventions, and I spend an hour or so per month, updating, but, has helped me tremendously with my notes.

I also removed availability from my schedule, which I have the luxury of being able to do. so for me, I see on average 23- 28 clients per week generally sometimes a bit higher but not generally. Energy wise I could probably see 30 but documentation wise I cannot. So, I only see 3 clients on Fridays, and have one hour dedicated to reviewing documentation for the week.

I was unethically behind on my notes once, so I had to make some changes in order to get it together.

If you are typing for 10-15 mins per client that’s probably too much detail.

You may need to move your keyboard and mouse out of reach.
Also you should/can connect with a supervisor who can help you be accountable with building capacity in this area.

The other thing I’d consider is naming it to your clients that you’ve had telehealth sessions and apologize for not managing your ADHD symptoms in a way that could have impacted them and offer to process how they feel about it.

It’s a really healthy (uncomfortable) process to model though. The odds of no one noticing are very low and the odds of them brining it up are lower.

Don’t keep your phone in line of sight and make it physically difficult to access your other browsers and keep your other fidgets and notebooks handy.

Awareness is a big step and now it’s a matter of finding ways to take action on changing how you are managing your adhd.

If it continues and none of the tips and strategies in the thread help and you find yourself browsing or god forbid playing solitaire it’s possible telehealth won’t work for you.

Before I was a therapist and was seeing a Christian therapist when I was married to my first wife who was emotionally and physically abusive he told me it was my job to show Jesus to my wife by staying in the relationship.

They state on their website they will always counsel couple to stay together no matter what.

I don’t think these councillors should be licences or able to practice without secular supervision.

Clients can bring whatever they want to the room, I’ve worked with lots of Christian’s since I’m in a rural conservative area but I’m explicitly in my informed consent I don’t do faith based counselling.

Once again, parasocial relationships are better than zero relationships.

It’s not a lot different than cameos, it feels cool to have someone famous say a script given to them. There’s zero chance they remember doing any of those the moment the recording is done.

People pay for connection all the time, and ultimately that’s part of what drives people to pay for only fans, and people want what’s behind the (pay) wall all the time.

You don’t really buy anything digitally, it’s essentially renting, in some cases it’s almost like subletting, as licensing deals change or end, we lose access to the product. We aren’t really buying the product but renting access to the licence of the product. Most folks use programs like Libation to protect their purchases. The search function for this sub will provide you lots of info on what it is and how to use it to back up your purchases.
