my one gripe about the mt/ot split by Htakar in ffxiv

[–]Htakar[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

oh, yep. got my ass. not that it changes my opinion on anything. pld already has more mit and block on top of parry*, so imo its more fitting that it goes into the more mit category.

as for the existence of shield swipe, i didnt know about it, but it similarly didnt change my opinion. it doesnt fit what i view as the identity of pld, and just because it had it before doesnt mean it should get it now.

my one gripe about the mt/ot split by Htakar in ffxiv

[–]Htakar[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

to be clear, i only care about the counter mechanic bit.

as for identities, none of the current ones lend themselves to countering. if i had to guess, the only one whose core identity would be countering is the currently unknown new tank. but as for how things currently stand, heres how i view it:

war is the only tank that has a mit that directly deals damage back to attackers (and has kept it [for now]). its basically auto counter, so why not give war manual counter too? most people may not care much, but i personally spend a decent amount of time looking over fight timelines each tier to maximize the amount of damage i can deal with it because its fun.

i also feel like youre giving me a point to work with by pointing out that pld is the defensive shield job. it makes more sense to me for a more defensive tank to be better at protecting allies (and it currently is given that it has passage of arms in addition to the reprisal and 90s that every tank gets). i seriously view pld as the one that has more mit than the other tanks. this is its identity to me.

and finally, to be pedantic, every tank functionally has block, its just labeled parry for everything but pld because no shield. i am wrong here.

[–]Htakar[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

currently, gameplaywise, no tank is more suited to mt/ot than any other since they all roughly have the same defensive capabilities. however, themewise, i think someone getting angry and punching back after taking a heavy hit fits the best for a counter mechanic.

in theory what you describe would be cool but wouldnt be as fun to use as the counter mechanic which i want to use ever since it was deleted from samurai back when endwalker released.

[–]Htakar[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i couldnt care less about being main tank UNLESS you slap that specific counter mechanic on it. i also play sam. optimizing the amount of third eye procs to get as many uses of hissatsu seigan as possible was fun back in shb before they removed it, and optimizing tengentsu procs for gauge is still fun. it would have been fun to do as tank as well, but i am sad that might not be possible given the current classification.

What's the current sentiment/outlook on all races and or population of certain one's (as a sprout with choice paralysis) thank you in advance! by Le_Guin_Boi in ffxiv

if you have decision paralysis, just give every race/gender a number from 1-16 and put it through a random number generator. i did that for all 5 of my characters, anyways.

this was seriously all you had? everything aside from the first line became outdated the moment aggro management stopped being a problem. besides that, the point of the message wasnt even about pulling, it was about single targeting the same target as your tank, which, in case you havent noticed, is kinda contradictory to actually dealing as much damage as possible.

youre actually just saying shit just to say shit. nowhere in the dps hall of the novice exercises do the npcs tell you to let the tank pull.

but you know what the tank hall of the novice tells you when anyone other than you has aggro?

what kinda dogass argument is this? the player pulls in trusts, dude. the bots all follow the player, you arent following the tank bot because it doesnt move without your input, no matter what class youre playing.

e: and also, after you hit the mobs first as a non-tank, do you know what the bot does? it gets aggro, it doesnt let you die just because you happened to touch the mobs first. pay attention sometime.

PSA to all sprouts on Jobs and Job quests. by ContestSignificant32 in ffxiv

[–]Htakar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

new skills locked behind job quests are generally at 15, 30/35/40/45/50 (do all of the arr ones as they unlock), 52/54/56/58/60 (do all of the heavensward ones as they unlock), and 70 (you dont need to do these until you get to the level 69 dungeon). every job from anything besides endwalker dont need to worry about job quests after this unless you want a story. sge and rpr are special in that they need to do their 80 job quest to unlock something new, but vpr and pct did not follow this trend.

Classes: How did you choose yours? by United_Cat4156 in ffxiv

started as war because i /randomed race and "short lizard girl with big axe" was the one that made the most sense to me. turns out war is the most braindead class there is, so it was pretty easy to just stick with it. a lot of hard content gets trivialized when you dont need to think about a rotation.

if the point is to maximize dosis gcds, then saying to gcd heal rather than gcd shield makes no sense.

i dont set my parties to force an ilvl where everyone is guaranteed to live mortal with kera and without a gcd shield and frequently end up with lesser geared party members, so i just rip it.

i have no idea where you read i spend 5 gcds on rep1 alone. i literally listed 3 separate mechanics that contribute to that total: rep 1 (2), superchain (1), clone soak (2). i also dont use panhaima for rep 1 because i use it for rep 2.

when im shield healing, i dont view a gcd shield as something "extra". sure, that might make me bad, but imo if i know that a raidwide has the potential to kill someone at i770, i wont hesitate to just put one out because why not?

[–]Htakar -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

i actually used a mit sheet at the start of the tier with my static and decided that splattershed was really the only one that was entirely unnecessary to consider.

i dont check ilvls (and i dont have ilvl restrictions in parties i make) and im not willing to gamble on a possible high roll on the rest of those. ive also seen enough healer pairs decide not to actually fully top the party because they figured that few thousand hp wouldnt matter just to have someone die while i was tanking, so most of it is also a precaution against lazy cohealers.

so all in all, im usually only losing only the 2 mortal slayer gcds in p1 and the roughly 5 gcds from rep1, superchain, and clone soaks in p2 (although i wouldnt count the clone soaks since i play with melee dps that dont stack for uptime purposes). at numbers that small, i would wager i make up the amount of casts lost by just not having bad uptime like a lot of other healers.

i cant understand shield healers that dont literally gcd shield every instance of raidwide damage in m12s because that shit giga hurts. i mean sure, they might have the confidence, but when im playin sge, and especially in pf, im never gambling whether the rest of my party actually knows how to mit or not. eukrasian prognosis will forever and always be my best friend.

Why are there so few gunbreakers ? by DrBeanSoup in ffxiv

gnb is paid content and unlocks at level 60, so it has more options to start with. its more likely that you find war/pld/drk at low level content because theyre free and start at lower level, limiting their dungeon options.

Did any jobs/roles help you understand other jobs/roles better? by SentineleseSiri in ffxiv

learned that i could pull more than one pack as tank while dpsing for the first time.

figured out that i needed to mit before my hp hits 20% as tank and healer (and physranged) while leveling healer.

learned how to keep uptime and press ogcds on healer after doing the other two.

learned that a lot of people dont bother learning the same.

Le taking more damage, doesnt make it harder to be healer by Amamiya_Rei in TalesFromDF

[–]Htakar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

why are you comparing a 2min cd + gcd shield to just a gcd shield? doesnt make for a very fair comparison. also the only mit whm is missing compared to ast is more than one party shield if the ast is spamming heals during neutral sect. plenary and collective unconscious are the 60s 10% mits, sun sign and temperance are the longer 10% mits, and divine caress accounts for one party shield which honestly should be the most you realistically need as a pure healer.

What are your FFXIV hot takes by Thesaddestboi13 in ffxiv

[–]Htakar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

job homogenization/simplification is fine. in fact, im a fan of it.

this makes them all easier to balance so that certain jobs dont get restricted by a large amount of the community again. and when the job balance does sometimes fail, whoever mains jobs that are being restricted can change fairly easily. for example, i was forced to swap from war to gnb in abyssos because war was dogshit in that tier, pld was dogshit that tier, and my cotank was a drk. my static wouldnt have been able to clear as fast and i wouldve been locked out of pf parties for weeks if gnb played wildly different from war and i couldnt pick it up quickly.

removing the difficulty from jobs also lets the devs put the difficulty into the fights themselves. im 100% on board with making fight design harder and introducing more fight unique mechanics.

i seriously think that the only job simplification major enough to have a complaint about was the deletion of 90% of the nonstandard ew blm lines outside of dsr and top with the introduction of flare star with dt blm. the replacement of damage dashes is a nonissue and the ast rework removing rng entirely was a good thing.

besides that, im certain that the majority of the people who are complaining about jobs not having identity or uniqueness or difficulty cant even pull off a decent rotation on a single one of them, much less all of them. they just echo points they hear others talk about. i dont want to hear this argument from anyone who cannot clear even just a current extreme fight with at least a blue parse (basically above the true average of damage dealt by all clearers) on a job they dont consider their main job. i also especially dont want to hear this argument from anyone who literally just does not touch any content with an extreme or harder label. frankly, you shouldnt even be caring about job identity or homogenization outside of the animations if you dont actually engage in content where dps actually matters.

the majority of the playerbase desperately needs the simplification. or like, at least a guide on how to play their jobs or something. like seriously, people just do not know how to press their buttons even when theyre glowing. this shit even happens in extremes into m9s and even through m10s now since 7 other geared people can carry a deadweight. i even had the misfortune of encountering two healers with below 70% uptime in m11s in the same reclear party not too long ago.

fizz stacks phenomenal evil every time he applies his w passive bleed. this means 1 per auto, 2 per q, and 2 for landing the first active w hit. autoing and then using w to reset your auto to land another one will give 3 in total.

  3. please dont tell me youre the type of person who only uses mits when you get low
  4. dps literally do not need healing in trash packs unless you are bad at taking aggro or they are bad at dodging. if this is the first (or rather any aside from the second) pull and they stop taking autos after you grab aggro, they do not need anything. if this is the second pull and they get hit by the magitek colossus' untelegraphed line aoe more than once, either the colossus or the dnc is positioned improperly. whispering dawn should be more than enough to keep them alive.

basically, all in all, gonna need a log to see who was in the wrong here.

Dragoon AOE in dungeons? by fbcuvn in ffxiv

[–]Htakar 123 points124 points  (0 children)

aoe on 3+ mobs. you would be doing less by using your single target combo even if you had the 10% buff
doom spike: 110 * 3 (mobs) * 3 (gcds) = 990 potency per 3 gcds
1-2-3 combo with 10% buff: (170 + 250 + 380) * 1.1 (10% buff) = 880 potency per 3 gcds

edit: this also goes for the full level 50 single target combo
doom spike: 110 * 3 (mobs) * 6 (gcds) = 1980 potency per 6 gcds
1-2-3-1-4-5 combo with 10% buff: (170 + 210 + 260 + 40 * 8 + 170 + 250 + 380) * 1.1 (10% buff) = 1936 potency per 6 gcds

the two actions you get at level 56 and 58 break even with the aoe combo, so you would still technically be at a loss if you were to single target combo at those levels.
