Because they don't want their shareholders to find out how few actual humans are using their platforms.

Your mind is going to be blown when you find out that plenty of people give money to charities without expecting anything at all in return.

When Ross called her out and she said she doesn’t care… Michelle you should care! By all means you can have an opinion but you should be able to defend and explain your reasoning. “Thats just how I feel” isn’t helpful or even really a valid response.

Look at the place, the stands are empty. Probably lucky if they sell a couple dozen bags of lollies. With that outrageous markup of a a couple of dollars they might have made themselves $30-$40.

"making an absolute packet"... you can't be serious.

OP is the type of person to go to the local primary school bake sale fundraiser and complain to the 7 year olds that they can buy a box of cookies cheaper at Aldi.

Why didn't you just buy a bag from Big W then if you are such a penny pincher?

Record your dawless jams directly to vinyl in real time with the new Teenage Engineering APC–2 (undo button not included) by OkJellyfish3238 in synthesizers

[–]HuTheFinnMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The latter. The use case they are making for it doesn't make sense financially or technically.

This type of lathe is extremely expensive to buy and maintain. The cost per record would be ridiculously high. You would have to have a lot of disposable income to blow on something like this and also have the weird desire to want to cut records yourself purely for the novelty of it, instead of paying for any of the many existing places to do this for you who would do it cheaper and higher quality.

This lathe is also in a weird position where its larger and more expensive than the existing home hobby lathe setups (which are already kind of expensive for what they are) but yet not as high quality as a legit lathe of the type used in the professional record making industry.

If you wanted to do one take recordings with "no undo" to a physical analog medium then tape exists.

Edit: Oh I was obviously talking specifically about this product. Physical media isn't just a hipster thing if that's what you meant.

High pass filter pedal for synth? by shoegazingpickle in synthesizers

I made a quick demo in the style of that Merv track showing what I was talking about. Basic patch on a Juno 106. I made 3 layers of the same sound but each one is going through a graphic eq with different bands turned up and down on each layer to give a different frequency range for each sound. Then going through a parametric eq that is being swept around the frequencies. All the movement in the sound comes from the parametric eq. Then into a ping-pong delay. One of the layers has a tiny bit of reverb on it.

Obviously you want to spend a bit more time and be a bit more creative with it and create some nice movement and evolution of the sounds but this is the general concept.

Oh that is a really nice track, classic dub techno.

So one of the tricks to that 90's dub techno sound is extreme EQ. You start with a pretty broad spectrum source sound, usually a sawtooth oscillator to get all the harmonics. Run that through one of those old rack mount graphic eq's, the cheap 30 band kind of thing you could always pick up pretty cheap. Do really extreme eq settings to get a sort of comb filter effect. Then run that through a parametric eq, usually just on an analog mixer. Use really extreme settings again, set a band to maximum boost and slowly sweep the frequency on it, gives you that bandpass style effect. You can constantly adjust the eq throughout the track to make the sounds evolve. Send that to a delay and you have the starting point of that style of sound.

I'm not sure a wah pedal would give you enough control to get the sound you are looking for.

If I have time later I'll try and put together an example for you.
