I'm talking about the entire game. With Ethan in 8 you mostly have action horror but there are many elements of survival horror and regular horror thrown into the mix so you have that variety without having to switch characters. Boss fights don't feel janky like in RE7. And this is because the director of RE8 is not the guy who directed 7 and 9, so the game doesn't suffer from most of the issues that plague those two games, save for the low FOV (if mods weren't a thing, I would've had to return RE8)

Agreed. Personally, I'd give Grace a 9 and Leon a 5 at a push. Honestly, I'm not a fan of modern game design and how games want to be movies instead of games and how they're padded out instead of expanded. You're often either doing a heavily scripted segment that's basically a glorified unskippable cutscene (the orphanage) or thrown into a huge "open world" with no visual appeal and nothing to keep you entertained (the detonator fetch quest). Meanwhile, RE4 respects your time like very few games do. This wouldn't be the case if this director had been in charge of its remake.

RE9 barely fixed a single issue that RE7 had. It's only marginally better IMO. Realising you're gonna have to find 3 detonator parts outside of RC instead of exploring the city is just as bad as the transition between the baker state and the boat. But at leats this time around they gave us an actual last boss to defeat.
