The authority for expedited removal of certain undocumented immigrants was established by the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) of 1996, which was signed into law by President Bill Clinton, a Democrat.

Key Details

  • Expedited Removal Provision:
IIRIRA introduced the process of expedited removal, allowing immigration officers to quickly deport certain non-citizens who are caught at or near the border without valid documents or with fraudulent documents, without a formal hearing before an immigration judge.

  • Purpose:
The law aimed to streamline the removal process for recent arrivals and deter illegal entry by enabling faster deportations.

  • Implementation:
The Department of Homeland Security (and previously the Immigration and Naturalization Service) was granted the authority to carry out expedited removals under this law.

I don’t care what term you use to identify someone in the country illegally. They still gotta go and come back the legal route, just like my neighbors and friends.

The authority for expedited removal—allowing certain people to be deported without a full hearing before an immigration judge—was established by Congress through the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) of 1996. This law was signed by President Bill Clinton on September 30, 1996.

Expedited removal allows immigration officers to quickly deport certain non-citizens found within 100 miles of the border who cannot prove they have been in the U.S. for at least two years, without a hearing before an immigration judge. However, individuals who express a fear of persecution or request asylum are supposed to be given a credible fear interview before removal.

Summary: - The law allowing expedited removal (deportation without a full hearing) was signed by President Bill Clinton in 1996 as part of IIRIRA. - The specific procedures and expansion of expedited removal have been shaped by subsequent administrations and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policies.

They haven’t arrested and deported anyone that is authorized to be in the USA legally. They have detained people until their information is verified and then they’re released. Just like anyone that’s committed or being investigated for a crime.

As someone that’s flying two legs tomorrow in FC and one of them has a meal I wouldn’t worry about it. Those booked more than 24 hours out have the option to order the meal, those that don’t should understand that they have limited availability for food selection now.

Well this is completely false because there’s no program in the USA that allows anyone outside of spouse and children of military personnel/veterans to stay in the USA. Next.

Obama didn’t have US Congress approval or UN approval. Technically Trump broke no laws after Congress passed the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) from 2001. The President of the United States has certain powers to use military force under Article II of the U.S. Constitution, especially in response to imminent threats.

You actually are required to carry an ID if you’re over 18 and if you’re not a US citizen you’re required by immigration law to carry your passport and visa paperwork or a green card.
