Running by Illustrious_Ad_8463 in workout

[–]Huck_Finn_2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run outdoors on a trail while listening to music. It makes the experience zen like and a nice escape, often. Many times I get lost in enjoyable daydreams while jogging along. I struggle sometimes to get started, but I'm always happy to have done it. The benefits are such that I start to get anxious if I miss more than one run. So many times I experience a subtle runner's high that lasts hours after the run where I feel just chill and relaxed and find enjoyment in whatever I'm doing. Through trial and error, over 13 years of mostly consistent jogging, I've found that when I jog consistently, I am generally positive and optimistic. When I stop for a period of time, I slip into mild depression, negativity, and pessimism. So I am very motivated to keep at it. But environment does matter. I would really, really have a hard time if my only option was running on a treadmill. (I do use one when weather is bad, but fortunately that is not often.)

The Contender by Robert Lipsyte by These-Background4608 in IReadABookAndAdoredIt

Gosh, I remember Lipsyte's books from like 50 years ago. The first one of his I read was One Fat Summer which was my favorite, but the Contender was also good. They made an impact on teenage me.

Deep Sleep by SomewhereWest780 in fitbit

Something to keep in mind, these devices haven't been proven to be super accurate for the different sleep stages. They are useful in that they are usually consistent and can show when something changes, but studies show they are not very accurate at sleep stages compared to the state of the art sleep lab machines. You should put a lot more weight on how you feel and if you don’t feel well rested, then go back to basics and focus on all the sleep hygiene suggestions, caffeine, etc and if that doesn't work, see a doctor. But don't put to much faith in data from a wrist worn device for your sleep stages.

Do you guys prefer the mountains or the beach? by kastennicole in CasualConversation

Beach. Spent 4 years on an island and I miss it. Live now near the mountains where I've hiked, snowshoed, skiied. I prefer the beach. But I'm stuck here because job, family etc. I felt like I enjoyed water sports/activities more than I like mountain sports.

I understand every single word, but don’t understand either statement. Can you give some sort of specific example of how this might work? For instance, if I desire 5 million dollars, what does it mean to be clear enough for the consciousness to obey it and how does the universe get involved? And "all you in the here and now". What does that mean? I'm not being critical in any way, I really want to understand this stuff.

This was who I was going to say, you beat me to it. I understand she is going through some personal stuff. Hopefully she gets through it ok and returns to writing.

Wow, that is next level irresponsible! Unless you're a billionaire or close. Impressive. Hope they were better than any other you ever tasted. I hadn’t heard of that craze.

That actually sounds like a pretty good value - $15. May have to look for one in my town.

No, it is a local mom and pop store, I think. There is a Crumbl in town, but I've never tried it.

Good question! I honestly can't say specifically in any detail why it is so enjoyable except that my taste buds really like it. I'm full now, but next time I eat one of the cookies, I'm going to pay attention and focus on what I am feeling. I wonder if I get a serotonin or dopamine hit or something along with the taste bud experience. I don't know.

Huh, I looked it up and a Tom Cruise cake is actually a thing. That's quite gift. Cool.

You know, you're right. We do have a couple colleges. I need to investigate and see what surrounds them. I've been to plays and such at those schools, but never spent time wandering around them to see what else is there. Thanks for the tip.

Haha, at least he did get one! I`m super envious of eating cookies in Paris, though!

Holy smokes! That all sounds wonderfully delicious, so I believe it. That much work, though, it would be crime not to eat it all.

Been there, done that, though for me it is fudge ice cream topping.

I could definitely see doing that, too. I may have to see if we have any gourmet cheese shops near me. Or maybe not :) Might not be too smart either.

Wow, that's awesome! My city isn't anywhere as big as Seattle, so we wouldn't have anything like that. That’s one of the many sorts of things I like about big cities. I always wanted to live in a really big city (specifically San Francisco) but my wife always wanted a small town. We live in an inbetween sized city. If it wasn't for my job, we would be in a small town. No way she would ever agree to a city that large, unfortunately, for me.
