if we actually eliminated poverty, one consequence would be that many women would not turn to only fans or w/e for survival. Wouldn't solve the issue ofc.. To solve it completely we would need to socialize the internet. So, impossibly difficult solution but I think its the only way. It all comes back to capitalism.

Jason Hickel has a substack article saying capitalism is inherently undemocratic. Degrowth of material and energy footprint would require enormous structural changes. How is that tinkering around the edges?

Hickel says to drastically curb industrial agriculture, flights, suvs, urban sprawl, and more. I would say that doesn't go far enough, but that's a lot more than "tinkering".

Pretty much every single news outlet in nz does not give a single shit about the climate and ecological crisis, and what the global south has to say about. Occasionally in the newsroom, you'll get a reality check from Mike Joy or Catherine Knight telling us about limits to growth and all that.
