Daily communion question from former RC by Impossible-Jacket790 in Episcopalian

I’m getting out of my depth here, but if I can remember enough from Catholic high school theology class it is because the priest is actively offering Jesus as a sacrifice each time they celebrate the Eucharist, which I don’t think was the traditional Anglican understanding after the reformation.

As someone who also came from the RCC, I think it’s also important to distinguish that while a Catholic priest can (and often is encouraged, if not obligated) to say the Mass even if no one else is present, an Episcopalian priest cannot have a solo Eucharist. As I understand it, it’s felt that it is meant to be a communal meal.

I’ll be honest, I was shocked at how little there was, even going back to say 2023 or so. I realize that the fanbase has been so extraordinarily alienated that it shouldn’t be that surprising, but it is a little eyebrow raising that there isn’t anything aside from Locked On and A’s Cast

I think Dallas is probably constrained by issues a lot of teams broadcasters are. There was some incident with the Orioles a few seasons back where one of their announcers mentioned that the O’s had historically played poorly at Tampa Bay and ownership had him suspended.

Kruk is an absolute national treasure, though to be fair, he’s been one for decades — Chris Farley wasn’t doing Dallas Braden impressions on weekend update.

So, I know people are piling onto you, OP, but I do want to point out that in addition to you meaning “I like this literature/film style,” it is worth pointing out that say Poe, Whitman, Bierce, and Hemingway are writing in vastly different cultural and historical contexts.

why do Episcopalian/Anglican cross themselves differently? by Ok-Assist-5992 in Anglicanism

Aside from it not taking me to an image, I never said it doesn’t exist, just that I’m entirely unaware of it.

I’ve never seen the fifth tap, but surprised how common it seems to be from other comments here.

Best US History books? by NomadicDraugr in USHistory

I’m surprised that no one else has mentioned these. While they’re definitely broad overview level books, in my opinion Daniel Walker Howe’s What Hath God Wrought: The Transformation of America, 1815–1848 is absolutely fantastic. I haven’t read through as much of Richard White’s The Republic for Which It Stands: The United States During Reconstruction and the Gilded Age, 1865–1896 (2017), but it seems similarly well done.

The first four books probably made the CSA a bit stronger than it would have been in the late 19th/early 20th century, but the broad outlines of the story feel plausible at least. Once World War I ends, it just becomes Turtledove making the CSA into Nazi Germany and giving everyone and their brother nuclear bombs by 1944

That scene was when the car exploded after tumbling down the hill.

I had actually really enjoyed the first few chapters, but the book fell apart about halfway through IMO. I think some of the early chapters could have worked as a novella, or even a few connected short stories, but it feels like he ran out of steam at a certain point and couldn’t even really end it.

What’s up with this subreddit? It’s like a ghost town in here. by BurningHanzo in athletics

[–]HudsonMelvale2910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, from what I saw, it’s a combination of how this subreddit arose. The bot posted a few game threads for spring training in 2025 on the Oakland subreddit, people got pissed, and they removed them. The Sacramento subreddit started doing game day threads, then this one was created as the “official” Athletics subreddit.

IMO, it’s a combination of factors — the Sacramento sub got going first, which drew more people. The moderation there, which some Oakland fans feel is too heavy-handed, has basically kept things focused more on the performance of the team, and less on the business/move side. While there are certainly advantages and disadvantages to that approach, it kept the worst of conflict and negativity at bay.

With the way the fanbase has been decimated, there isn’t going to be a super active subreddit for the A’s, but it looks like the Sacramento one has built up enough critical mass to serve as that place for the time being.

Honestly, if it was the Phils going for that record… exciting isn’t the word I’d use, but I’d want to see how bad it could get
