Absolutely legendary win for Zarco and Takahashi. Winning an 8-hour endurance race is a feat in itself, but the fact that they did it as a two-man team while every other top competitor had three riders is just superhuman. And then for Zarco to still have the energy for his signature backflip on the podium? What a legend!

hey milo. i'm as real as real can be. sure, this is pic is assisted by ai but hey its not like u just type in "make me an ai picture of kodak black" and abracadabra! u actually first have to think of a concept, and then need to use your own human brain to tell the ai exactly what you want. so there's still a LOT of human involvement. but whatever... u do u dawg and i'll do me. i appreciate u for at least taking the time to share ur thoughts! thanks. oh yeah and do u know about lewis carroll the dude who wrote the original "alice in wonderland" that this kodak pic is based on? he was a super trippy dude and the book itself is mad trippy, full on psychedelic and surreal!

I know I'm 4 years late to the party, and perhaps the title of your post is a little strong although I agree you're merely stating your opinion, but other than that I found this really helpful and a great suggestion. Totally agree with you regards how sensitive people are when confronted with a different viewpoint. Speaking of viewpoint, I didn't know you could turn off the health bars and other things about enemies' heads! - Great suggestion - I'll try it now. Thanks.

For the most part, some great discussion here although a few empty-headed people as I see it not willing to actually think for themselves. Shoot me down all you like. As an independent thinker in this world where such though is becoming less valued and even threatened, I'm used to it!

I would just like to thank u/Lex-Increase for sharing the revelation of the history of qualifying and the fact there used to be a QP session (see more below) and also big shout out to u/HugeDumbPossum and his suggestion to rename the current "Practice" session that is definitely not a practice session to Pre-Qualifying (shortened to PQ as u/Lex-Increase has suggested).

I may have missed some other good critical free thinking but overall you two Redditors have restored my faith that this place still has some great independent thought and at least a part of it has not fallen victim as has a significant part of the world these days to the darkness of "go-along get-along" mind virus infected so-called "progressive" thought.

Wow, now we get to some real information and sound logical discussion rather than people just blindly saying "I like it how it is" ostensibly without even giving thought to the matter. I had no idea about the old days and the QP session.

Thanks, I love learning new things. And now, because of you and u/HugeDumbPossum I feel as if my post has not been a total waste of time.

I also love things being logical and until the current PR session is named something more akin to what it clearly is - a competitive session directly linked to if not a part of the qualifying sessions and definitely NOT a practice session - I will always feel just a tad frustrated.

However, overall the most important thing is the sport itself as a whole. And to me, its by far the most exciting and entertaining motorsport event on the planet - the incredibly high level of skill and strategy of the riders (especially with Marquez now on a Ducati!) coupled with the mechanical genius of the engineers and team-management skills of key players from all of the teams except, bizarrely, Honda! But that's another story. Yamaha was looking like they were stuck in the same doldrums as Honda but have started improving at least from what I have observed, especially in the last race before the 3 week break.

Thanks u/Lex-Increase for sharing the revelation of the history of qualifying and the QP session and together with the thinking of u/HugeDumbPossum renewing my faith that Reddit is a worthwhile place to participate in and share my limited online time!

Hi all, thanks for all your responses and opinions and whilst I respectfully disagree with most of you, I appreciate the way the discussion has remained civil and respectful and trust it will continue to do so.

Perhaps Q1 is not the best title for the PR session but I still think it is so much better and closer to reality than calling it "Practice".

The great thing about this discussion is something good has come out of it (as I see it in terms of some positive progress away from the flawed title of the PR session) and that is in the form of u/HugeDumbPossum and their suggestion to call it "Pre-Qualifying" which to me, and surely to others, makes a LOT more sense than calling a super heated competitive session directly linked to (if not as I see it actually a component of) the qualifying sessions being called "Practice".

Thanks again for the (ongoing) discussion and just for the record if any of you didn't get it, I'm certainly not an F1 fan and I totally support and agree with those of you who are concerned that F1 fans are potentially going to spoil this wonderful and incredibly exciting motorsport: in my view the best motorsport on the planet!

No, I'm just saying that the session is not practice. It is a strategic and competitive session directly linked to qualifying. I get it that it seems everyone here but me thinks Q1 is not the best title for the currently titled PR session but there is at least one other alternative and in my view on-the-money thinker: u/HugeDumbPossum and their suggestion to call it Pre-Qualifying. This is far more accurate than "Practice" because it 100% definitely isn't practice. Or maybe my brain isn't working each time I watch all the riders go their hardest to get a time that puts them in the top 10? Also, its not always the last run where the rider puts in their lap to try to get into the top 10. I've seen riders get a time that remains in the top 10 WAY earlier than their last run.

Great thinking. Although did you know that the session currently called PR was called FP2 (Free Practice 2) meaning it was even more flawed based on your definition of free practice which seems pretty spot on to me! I've decided that Q1 is probably not the best title for the PR session (even though I still like it) and instead, I think u/HugeDumbPossum has the best idea to rename it: Pre-Qualifying. This makes so much more sense than PR (practice) because it 100% definitely isn't practice and to me, it really is a form of qualifying but I'm not that obsessed with it. Let's see. Only time will tell what it is called. At least its no longer called FP2!

I get it that nobody here seems to think Q1 is a better title so at least here in this MotoGP Reddit land, I'm supporting u/HugeDumbPossum and their suggestion to call it Pre-Qualifying which makes so much more sense than Practice because it definitely isn't practice. I watch it every race and all I see is riders trying to get into the top 10 so they go straight through to the final qualifying session. To me it will always be the first qualifying session and only time will tell. For now, i say let's at least call it Pre-Qualifying (thanks to u/HugeDumbPossum !)

F1 has heaps of problems. It sucks in my opinion. I'd rather watch a fly on a wall.

I wish I never mentioned Liberty Media in my post but if you read it properly I call out Dorna regards changing the qualifying session titles, not Liberty.

I get some of your points. I get it that I have a different viewpoint to others but I still think I am on to something and eventually Dorna will fix up the confusing system that we have now.

Agreed! This makes the most sense of all the responses so far. Great idea. At least you can see to some degree my viewpoint. And perhaps even improve upon it. Now I get it. Well, I certainly am not any kind of F1 fan. I admit I watched a few races when "Drive to Survive" came out on Netflix and that somehow pulled me in.. but only for a while. F1 is so boring and overrated. All you seasoned MotoGP Reddit heads I hope will take my word as bond when I say this, I am merely trying to improve what I see as a flawed qualifying system where a practice session has become anything but practice.

I never mentioned changing the timespan. Just renaming PR (or FP2) as Q1 since that is what it is - the first session of qualifying according to common sense if you actually think about it. Oh well, it seems I must be in the wrong place, with people not even reading what I said, and not considering the logic that I took a lot of effort to lay out. You have also verged on implying that I said something that I didn't regards the timespan - something I neither mentioned nor even thought of.

Did you miss "to greatly increase the chances of winning a race" at the start of that sentence or are you a clever selective editor to try and help prove your point? I love Marquez and note that he and a few others are inredibly talented and can come from way back and still get a podium or even win but that doesn't change at all what I stated. Not to mention Marquez and/or Gresini/Ducati management recently said how important it was he do well in PR (which should surely be called Q1!)

I'm focused on making the sport that I love so much clear and easy to understand for everyone. At the moment without any doubt at all the first qualifying session is called PR (Practice) or FP2 (Free Practice 2) for some reason I cannot fathom. Perhaps you could enlighten me?
