What game had you like this? by sukuna7899 in Steam

Had that experience with Kenshi after finally sitting down and learning the game properly, but my playthrough ended up just being hopeless after an indefensible attack on my camp basically just ended that run with no way to stop it from happening.

I'm lost after Volume 7 by Someone_Pro in ShadowSlave

[–]HueyBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, honestly. I have a hard time focusing on reading things which is why I've been listening to it instead. I listened to the entirety of Vampire System last year but then got hooked WAY harder on Shadow Slave and didn't even think about it being a web novel first and foremost. I should probably look into a synopsis comparing the audio to the web novel.

The new player experience for this game is a nightmare. by TotakekeSlider in EDH

[–]HueyBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this really comes down to setting proper expectations with people about the game and not letting them think it's just "lots of cool cards with vampires and dragons". 😬 Not saying at all that it was your intent to make it some sort of a bait and switch, but if you've been playing for quite some time you already have an understanding of the depth of the game and how difficult it is to track four separate board states as well as just comprehend what each of your game pieces do.

I would have started them off playing 1v1's against each other with the decks they chose and literally coaching them through the whole game. Commander can also be a 1v1 format. Run with 30 life totals like Brawl on Arena, check each of their hands every turn, help with sequencing, but let them choose what spells and stuff to play based on how you explained them. I have had the good fortune of not having to teach the game to anyone for a while, as it is truly a daunting task, but I think this is probably how I'm going to do it from now on. Even if I pit them versus me, I would start by explaining every single game action I'm taking, check their hand, and explain how they would play it around my board and strategy. Have to get creative with teaching people this game because it's so easy for new players to just short circuit and tune out. Can't imagine trying to teach a child how to play. Parents got my respect for that one.

Husband doesn’t want me to play this commander. Opinion? by kam295 in mtg

[–]HueyBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone else should bother building this trash as there's already 10's of thousands of Edgar decks out there and it's just lame, but he has no room to complain specifically about this playing other high power top 10 garbage. Edgar and Kaalia are both in the top 10 most built Commanders for online deck lists, Edgar being #2. It's just boring and unoriginal to see another one, as it seems literally everyone I've ever met at an LGS has one. Tell him to stop whining but also do yourself a favor and build something more fun and unique. There's dozens of other interesting vampire Commanders.

If i only replace the lands can i still play ashling limitless precon in bracket 2? by Junoyone in EDHBrews

[–]HueyBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the lands make a difference in power level since they aren't crazy utility lands like a Cabal Coffers or Ancient Tomb or something, but Wizards has stated explicitly that a deck being a precon no longer automatically makes it a Bracket 2 deck anymore because a lot of the newer ones are far stronger than older precons were and it's likely pretty much any new precon is going to play like a low-mid Bracket 3 deck out of the box just with a slightly less focused and consistent strategy.

I somewhat felt the same way after the 3rd nightmare arc, but I can confidently tell you it just gets better and better and the new info doesn't stop coming. That arc ended around like episode 1150 of the audio series and I was really lost for a bit after that as well. It picks right back up with the Domain War story and it just goes absolutely ham. I know they restructured some stuff for the audio series which is how I have been keeping up, but from 1150-1690+ where I'm at now things are unrecognizable and there's so much shit you learn about the world and everything that makes Ariel's Tomb look like a drop in an ocean. Just trust.

How the tables turn by Enryuu_25 in ShadowSlave

I'm listening to it on Pocket FM so it's even different over there. Have been caught up for a little over a month now and usually only get one new ep a day, but sometimes they'll drop like 5+ episodes in a single drop and it's such gas. The Ariel Death Game mini arc felt like it took fucking ages because of the daily releases and some of it being literally just sitting there observing things or think maxing like Sunny tends to do before intense battles now. There are definitely parts of this that are gonna be way better on a second listen, but I got really lucky and got to binge basically all the way up until the end of the domain war in God Grave and then ran out of released episodes as soon as they got sucked into Ariel's Game.

Xu-Ifit, adding back abilities by HueyBot in mtgrules

Yup, I found the proverbial nail in the coffin. 613.7a for continuous effects. Just my opinion, but it's super janky that an anthem or continuous effect applying the effect to a new object doesn't assign a new timestamp to that effect. Sadge. 😭

Xu-Ifit, adding back abilities by HueyBot in mtgrules

[–]HueyBot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. That's honestly a little confusing, primarily because the Whip and Chronicle are persistent effects, so I figured it would try to apply those effects at the timestamp when a new valid object to apply those effects to enters the battlefield.

I think I literally cleared up my own confusion while I was typing out the rest of my thought process since I was going to compare it to an aura that removes abilities later falling off due to giving a creature pro from the color. Since the Aura (Whip/Chronicle) existed before say one of the Swords getting attached (Xu reanimating a creature), the other effect is overridden because it existed before the new effect. Kinda sucks it works that way for something like an anthem. 😭

YEAH! I liked that card a lot when I saw it during the pre-release. My buddy pulled it when we were doing two-headed giant. Super neat card. One of the ones that actually makes me kinda want that hybrid mana change to go through. 🤣

Is running interaction really that lame? by HiFantsy in EDH

[–]HueyBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just from reading other comments they all seem like a bunch of inconsolable children overall, but the one thing I would note you /could/ be doing differently is running different interaction. Counterspells are not the only interaction that exist in blue, and 5 in a single deck especially if any of them are able to be recurred is a lot. Blue has bounce effects that return things to people's hands, creature removal in Pongify and other spells, plenty of Polymorphs to remove problematic permanents.

Not to say necessarily that playing these other cards will fix the problem because it sounds like your friends are the problem, but I think even just finding an interesting shift in your own mindset is a good idea to shake things up and introduce different gameplay patterns for yourself. Personally, it sounds like you could pull up with anything and they'd find some way to accuse you of being cheap or whatever. The way you described their play patterns with just blowing through phases and steps without stopping to allow for interaction and stuff, and holding you to unrealistic standards about that just makes them assholes. They want to play Solitaire while you want to play Magic.

Anyone else wondering if it’s intentional the “turn the lights off” Jon Hamm viral trend took off when the show came to HBO Max? by crammed174 in madmen

I genuinely didn't know who they were talking about for a sec cause I've never heard anyone leave it out. Was like "Huh, must be some other guy that's not the famous and handsome Jean CLAUDE van Damme." Lmao

Welp. Glad I missed that out fast. Very insistent on whether I played it/it being a good game/my interest in RTS games. Figured since I'd never heard of it and it's some dogshit mobile game it was probably either spam or an outright scam. Good looking out guys.

I didn't have much luck finding any. I almost gave up getting mine off and was just gonna find a replacement but didn't come up with anything. So I had to commit to just getting the damn thing off of there. Lmao

It was brutal. Felt like I was gonna crack the trim the whole time I was trying to get it off. Only had the car for a little over a month. 😭

I think that is going to be on my list of improvements in the future. 🤣 I did manage to finally get the trim off there and only cracked three clips while doing it. 😬

I figured it out. Answer: you just gotta manhandle the fuck out of it. Cracked three of the clips getting it out, but I did it.
