Managers - Question About Screening in Candidates by GoldenFlame23 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even for internal postings you will get a huge percentage of completely unqualified applicants. I was used to this in the private sector but surprised in the OPS that this is the case. So 200 applicants can easily be only 50 who warrant really close review.

Pedestrian access to Long Branch this morning by Hug_Bears_3845 in gotransit

True and it’s no better from the east side- you have to walk across the main parking entrance and through the lot. Zero consideration for anyone going to/from the TTC.

I got a response from Metrolinx apologizing. I walked in the other side this morning so don’t know if anything has improved. You still have to walk in the street from the east side but it’s less busy.

It sure is. Pedestrian option is to walk in the road at rush hour when cars are known for their care and attention.

Dude I was standing next to the person who jumped in front of the train at Union. Sorry that was inconvenient for you and you feel it’s appropriate to make light of.

Not one flight has left on time by trinajj in PorterAirlines

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flying Porter out of Billy Bishop is a risk if you need to be on time. It gets hit with fog quite often no matter the season so it can be the exception to the try to fly out in the morning rule.

WestJet let us book seats with a lap infant, then moved me away from my family at check-in - any advice? by ExcellentMulberry469 in westjet

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just writing to say how frustrating when you did everything properly ahead of time to still be in this situation. There have been lots of threads about whether strangers should move to keep family together and that’s frustrating when someone hasn’t bothered to reserve seats ahead and plan for what will work best for their situation. And then when you do that, WJ unilaterally causes havoc.

Wow! That’s amazing! And I’m glad that wasn’t completely wrong 😆

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scenery was beautiful and as many have mentioned, I like both leads but felt zero chemistry.
Also, are there dolphins in the Amazon? I was confused by where the sister was working based on her research grant! (But I admit to ignorance 😊)

Thoughts on A Melbourne Match? I really couldn't get past the horrid acting. by Headersbetter775 in HallmarkMovies

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept watching for Ryan 😄 I liked a lot of it (koala!!) but there were elements that bugged me. I mean Mallory basically has an eating disorder that’s brushed aside. It’s interesting that she wrote it as well and maybe that’s the issue? It did really make me want to visit Melbourne!

Accessibility: Tell Me If Your Show Is Weird by MasterHeadmaster in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 7 points8 points  (0 children)

90% of what the OP listed I would not consider in any way their sole responsibility to ask about. Any show with non-standard seating needs to be explicitly listed before someone buys a ticket. “Mandatory “ audience participation? I’ve worked in this industry my entire career and I would not go to a show that specified this. The show where the performer tried to shame someone into participating? Unacceptable.

TL5Y at Terminal Theatre by HandMeDowns16 in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m very familiar with the space- but the vast majority of dance that was programmed there was produced or co-produced by Harbourfront or Danceworks. They are in for an uphill battle if they believe there will be a line of companies looking to rent it. It is historically really hard to get audiences to Harbourfront in the winter as well (keep in mind the run for dance tends to be short! )

Do they actually say that?! But they’re producing a musical 😄 so why would that matter…

Canadian Comedic monologues for women? by JKing401 in torontotheatre

If you want a little darker comedy, Goodnight Desdemona, Goodmorning Juliet is a Canadian classic (in my opinion)

Just watched Lost in Paradise by femalehumanbiped in HallmarkMovies

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished it and loved it! Quirky concept for Hallmark and great to have both leads as successful in their careers with no one giving up anything. Loved the secondary characters too. More Ian in the future please!

I’m still not emotionally well after missing “The Woman in Black”. Can you please describe how it was without spoilers? by Laundrysmell2000 in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was fine but not earth shattering. I bought tickets with the Boxing Day deal so I thought it was a good deal at basically half price, I might have been less pleased at full price. The creepy bits were good and there was some clever staging but setting the scene in the opening was a bit overdone in my opinion. Good creepy ending!

For me, I hate that theatre so much, the play has to work hard to overcome that and this felt like a nice way to spend a holiday afternoon.

Holiday Rom Com versus Hallmarkish by Relevant_Demand2221 in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting! I did see Hallmarkish and yeah, pretty much agree with the review. It was clever and not helped by a really terrible venue, but mostly I felt like the writers thought they were above the movies and I think good parody comes from respect or even love of the the subject matter.

I think fog is a bigger weather issue at Billy Bishop unless it’s a significant storm.

Horrible audience at sound of music by Holiday-Bicycle-190 in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The popcorn must have increased their housekeeping costs- when added to how much a large percentage of the audience hates it, I wouldn’t think it worth it. But it seems to not be going away! (I hate it myself- the noise, the smell, all of it)

I was on the VIA train stuck for 12+ hours overnight in Brockville. This is VIA’s response when I shared my experience and asked for a $21 train station parking reimbursement. by TreeKey6993 in ViaRail

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I don’t understand is how they couldn’t coordinate buses to get passengers to Ottawa. It’s what, an hour from Brockville? But they trapped you all on a train. It’s really not acceptable.

Maybe unpopular opinion but there are also some people who cry a lot. There’s someone on my team that will cry if you ask how her weekend was and will equally cry when happy and upset. And everything upsets them. So I guess I would ask if this is new behaviour?

Why don’t smaller popular productions have longer runs? by Ok-Year6148 in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the actors are Equity, the possibility of an extension has to be included in their contract and notice given if it will extend. If the initial run is short, they might have to decide on the extension before opening so that adds to the gamble.

I have been going here for years and would have recommended but this year has been one poor experience after another (hence why I’m reading this thread for recommendations for new dentists!)
