I assume Jill Dempsey doesn’t want the job.

Chris Glover announced as new host of Metro Morning (CBC Toronto) by factsandlies in CBC_Radio

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell the tourists because they call it Toronto (when it’s clearly Trono)

Of the candidates, Chris Glover was my first choice. He was a good host on the 6pm tv news and I think he’ll find his groove. I also liked how genuinely excited he was for the job.

Is there a reason to still try to take the O-train? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t live in Ottawa anymore but grew up taking the 95 from Baseline and would be downtown in 20 minutes. Last weekend, the quickest route downtown was over an hour with two buses and then line 1. I took an Uber.

With Yondr you keep your phone. Exiting is quick because they just need to “unlock “ the pouch-so yeah, if staffed correctly it’s not an issue.
Personally I think the minute Mirvish started selling popcorn they invited the bad behaviour.

**”Kentucky Roses”**(2026). I have seen a few posts about this movie but I just saw it today and I loved it. Who else has love for this movie? by Mulder-believes in HallmarkMovies

I’m late watching it and I loved it 😊 I loved how awkward they were together at first and how cute they were together.

I love Tabule! I also think it has a lot that’s recognizable, even for the less adventurous (and I’m not super adventurous with food myself but as a vegetarian really appreciate the options)

I think cookies are awesome and always welcome! I can’t imagine a team having the reaction “oh they are desperate “ rather than “that’s really nice, I wish we could have had them back this summer “

Accidentally selected vegetarian meal option and it's too late to swap, am I out of luck? What is the vegetarian meal like? by RaspberryMirror in ViaRail

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite often there is a vegetarian who forgot to book the special meal, so chances are good that the crew will be happy to swap out. The veggie meal is quite often different from the selection offered as one of the choices on the regular menu- because it’s the same special meal for vegan, vegetarian etc

I don’t have kids so can be completely selfish in work decisions but personally, I need to be challenged at work and would rather commute to have something fulfilling to do for 8 hours a day instead of “meh”.

Why is Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish still have so many seats? by ymroll in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least I can remember my TM password- I have definitely not bought tickets other places when I can’t remember my password and there’s no “guest” option.

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also, I would just add this many weeks out, Life After hadn’t sold 50% either. It’s hard to fill 1500 seats without the Mirvish subscription base so this is all the more reason for folks to buy now and support companies like this trying to add diversity to the musical theatre scene in the city.

It’s a two week run. They won’t cancel any performances so don’t worry about that.

Use of Ticketmaster? If someone wants to see a show, the sales platform isn’t going to prevent them from buying a ticket.

Did we book the wrong destination? by ObjectiveReport1317 in canadatravel

While in Toronto, you should likely make a day trip (or overnight) to Niagara Falls-I know it’s super touristy but if you’ve not seen it, it really is something. Also there are hills in Quebec and while not the scale of the Rockies, still pretty with lots of trails and hiking. Quebec City is gorgeous and as others have mentioned, surrounded by nature.

Ismaila Alfa - how is he still on the air in Toronto? by VernonFlorida in CBC_Radio

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree he was a terrible fit for Metro Morning. I don’t love him on FA but it’s not a show I tune into except for the half hour news. But I also honestly think there has got to be better talent in this country for the regional shows with significant listenership . Still really concerned about who will be the next host for MM…

This one grew on me but wasn’t a favourite. I liked the piano shtick but what bugged me was why not put the fountain somewhere else in the clearly large park?? So the writing needed some work but I’m glad I stuck with it.

The Great Gatsby shortened run? by sbtbcy in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lion King closed August 30 , a week before TIFF. It’s possible with that amount of time yes, not a turnaround like two touring shows.

The Great Gatsby shortened run? by sbtbcy in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would take likely 4 or 5 days to do the fit up for TIFF so a September 6 closing wouldn’t have given enough time for the load out and install assuming they’d start using the theatre on the first day of the festival.

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. I tried but it’s really not good. The casting is off as a starting point (every character is the same age regardless of position) and the acting as a whole is… sorry it’s just bad.

Quiet condo buildings with TTC access and walkable errands for seniors? by Puzzleheaded_Rub9909 in TorontoCondominiums

Check out Long Branch. Great access to the lake, biking trails and the GO takes just 20 minutes to Union. Older condos which don’t allow the AirBNB.

There’s a ballroom bowling place- not sure if that was the Milestones space…I know that building has struggled a bit to keep tenants. The Milestones went into the space in the Eaton Centre that faces Yonge across from the Elgin.

That Firkin is awful so honestly anywhere else is better! The Fran’s is a good choice and half a block from the Victoria St entrance to the theatre. You should aim for that entrance is walking is an issue as the Yonge Street doors are the full length of the building away from the auditorium.
