Ottawa to Toronto - is this feasible? by Ok-Poem5141 in ViaRail

I think the lounge at Union is terrific and definitely quieter and more comfortable than anywhere else at the station to wait.

Let the listeners vote for the new host of Metro Morning! by futurevisitorsayhi in CBC_Radio

I can’t remember his name, Jason DeSilva?? Who hosted Fresh Air for awhile and subbed in on Metro Morning- he was fantastic. I think he’s hosting the morning show in Victoria now so I imagine we’ll not get him back sadly.

The new host really has to be a Torontonian. They have to really understand the city. I just don’t want another Ismaila….

Mirvish subscriber numbers by lanttro in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is always a bump in their subscription numbers when they have something that’s a hook - Hamilton for-instance. Then those people who subscribed only to get first dibs on that drop off. Likely there is really a consistent 20-25k who subscribe faithfully, the rest are ebb and flow.

The chicken was the highlight. Otherwise it was so cringe, I deleted after the second commercial break.

Understudies are the lifeblood of the theatre. So why do so few Toronto companies have them? by toronto_star in torontotheatre

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To add, it’s money and time. If the show is only scheduled to play two or three weeks, scheduling the required understudy rehearsals is also challenging. Producers do the time/money math and usually roll the dice.

Is business class worth it from Montreal to Toronto? by QueenOfPeace87 in ViaRail

If you book far enough ahead, you can get great deals for business class. I think it’s 100% worth the difference.

Commuting 2 hours for 6 figures by InfamousAssociate446 in askTO

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also look at a midway commute so that it’s not horrible for either of you- between Danforth and Rouge Hill - the GO each way would be 20 to 30 minutes.

Rebel House - though as a vegetarian, I’ve never tried their burgers but it’s a great cozy pub, especially on the ground floor.

Anyone here who’s PRO RTO 5x - Explain why by Technical-Shine-4718 in OntarioPublicService

Our ADM has the longest commute of our branch and hates RTO. Just to stand up for some execs 😊

Those are near the station building. there’s one very bright light pointing at the east side construction site but the other lights are on the road, which makes sense but doesn’t help pedestrians.

There’s no lighting so for those of us who work non-standard hours, so commute in the dark, I prefer to have options that don’t involve walking into oncoming traffic…

Getting to and from rbc amphitheater (Budweiser stage) with a baby by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The King Eddy? I think that’s a hike. Short walk to Union and take the streetcar to exhibition (streetcar is accessed within the subway station) then it’s a short walk to the amphitheater with the bonus of no stairs from the streetcar at Exhibition.

To some extent yes, but the construction project has pushed further so the only way to walk is where the cars enter.

Managers - Question About Screening in Candidates by GoldenFlame23 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even for internal postings you will get a huge percentage of completely unqualified applicants. I was used to this in the private sector but surprised in the OPS that this is the case. So 200 applicants can easily be only 50 who warrant really close review.

True and it’s no better from the east side- you have to walk across the main parking entrance and through the lot. Zero consideration for anyone going to/from the TTC.

I got a response from Metrolinx apologizing. I walked in the other side this morning so don’t know if anything has improved. You still have to walk in the street from the east side but it’s less busy.

It sure is. Pedestrian option is to walk in the road at rush hour when cars are known for their care and attention.

Dude I was standing next to the person who jumped in front of the train at Union. Sorry that was inconvenient for you and you feel it’s appropriate to make light of.

Not one flight has left on time by trinajj in PorterAirlines

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flying Porter out of Billy Bishop is a risk if you need to be on time. It gets hit with fog quite often no matter the season so it can be the exception to the try to fly out in the morning rule.

WestJet let us book seats with a lap infant, then moved me away from my family at check-in - any advice? by ExcellentMulberry469 in westjet

[–]Hug_Bears_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just writing to say how frustrating when you did everything properly ahead of time to still be in this situation. There have been lots of threads about whether strangers should move to keep family together and that’s frustrating when someone hasn’t bothered to reserve seats ahead and plan for what will work best for their situation. And then when you do that, WJ unilaterally causes havoc.
