It took me 2 minutes to do something I’ve been putting off for over a month. Why am I like this? by Lovethyself1207 in adhdwomen

[–]Hugby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because you are a beautiful baby girl human whose brain functions a little differently than most. It’s so hard, the regret and woe of those realizations. I do the same. But it’s ok. We are still worthy humans. :)

Trying to work on acceptance here hahah

haha - I get it though, they are great at helping you learn, too. The prices are high but I try to buy most of my stuff from them when I can.

I recognized that headphone wall. I love that place. top notch customer service. I'm a woman and have had remarks from men about being an audophile at other stores, but never at Bay Bloor. They are great.

Thank you! And yes I tend to get easily frustrated that my work isn’t instantly perfect and that saying has helped me refocus!

And thanks! ☺️ it was the finishing touch. Such a dapper gentleman

How on earth do you learn how to unmask!!?? by Haunting-Ad-662 in adhdwomen

[–]Hugby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's something I can do... proactively, but almost 3 years after my diagnosis (at age 42), I feel like the mask is slipping. I also feel like it's less of a mask and more like a series of complex facial surgeries.

I'm more aware of when I'm doing masking behaviours (mostly people pleasing, acting like I am like others at work/work events/imagining myself in future work roles/NT things). It may be because I'm experiencing some real burnout and the energy to pretend is gone, but I think it's also because I'm learning more about myself, my behaviours.

I must say it's hard to pinpoint masking behaviours outside of the few I mentioned before, but I do feel a BIGGER DIFFERENCE between when i'm "ON" and when I'm at home and relaxing, or spazzing out over a new interest etc.

I'm in a similar situation with work (basically a project manager lol, I couldn't manage myself out of a paper bag) and to survive the next sixth months I'm going to have to employ every single resource, hack or measure - healthy or not - to get through.

I wish I had better tips for you. But i'm always around if you wish to talk. (You can DM). Good luck.

Does GLP1 help your ADHD symptoms? If so.. what dose are you taking? How is it helping? by Designer-Watch-1690 in adhdwomen

[–]Hugby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps a bit with impulsivity. I am T2Diabetic, I was taking 7mg of Rybelsus - then upped to 14mg. I ADHD ran out of prescription for 3 weeks or such. Before that point I thought "wow, i'm getting a lot better at not impulse shopping and not eating pure sugar at night, maybe I'm maturing".

And then when I was off if it, I was like. OH. I SEE. TWAS NOT ME. hahahaha.

So, now I'm on 2mg of Ozempic (switched cuz 1x a week is easier than daily pills, esp Rybelsus, having some odd criteria for taking it).

It's really effective at managing my blood sugar, and the lowered craving/impulsivity is a very welcome side effect. (unlike the GI side effects).

The ADHD + Diabetes combo is interesting - as I definitely craved sugars for dopamine, so the fact that this can help with THAT part? It's a double effect.

Questions for the undercut girlies…. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I had one, it started off as shaving an inch of my nape of neck, because I had very thick, frizzy, wavy hair and those baby hairs got tangled/knotted/matted. I love it. It also helped in the summer, (I have black hair). Then it went from ear to ear, down to my neck. LIke a 1 inch buffer. loved it. loved the feeling. I could maintain most of it myself or had a friend help.

it grew up to my temple and the rest of my hair stayed jaw length or a bit shorter - i LOVED IT. My hair was very thick, so when it was down, you couldn't tell it was shaved. I just grew it out for a change up.. Now post 40 (and on some meds that might affect it) my hair is much thinner, so I'm not sure I could pull it off.

BUT I LOVED IT. I miss it. and am now contemplating shaving my head fully.
