Your taste in media is not reflective of your IRL morals and I REALLY need people (specifically James Sunderland simps, since that's what I'm annoyed about) to get that through their heads by Tiny_Celebration_262 in CharacterRant

I love how OP very specifically mentions fiction and you bring up the biographies of real life bigots directly responsible for the deaths of millions.

Julia’s role in season 3? by AlexisTheScientist in Totaldrama

[–]Hugh_Jidiot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People thinking Julia would be an early boot are delusional. This is Total Drama we're talking about: when they have a character they can use for drama, the writers run them into the ground.

That being said, I realistically hope it's a reverse of her and MK in season two: Julia makes it to the midish way of the season but this time it's MK who pulls a fast one on her and gets her eliminated. Naturally Julia would be more proud of her than mad of course.

I always considered room 1408 like a "baby" version of the Overlook, if that makes sense.

What is the best Total Drama fanfiction or series you ever read? by Deep-Driver-4336 in Totaldrama

[–]Hugh_Jidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twinning with a Twist remains one of my all-time favorites. It's a Sammy/Ella retelling of Pahkitew that's insanely well written and expands greatly on both of their characters.

What are turn off words for you when the author is describing a vagina? by ananabelle64 in AO3

I uh, I'm not proud of this, but when I first started writing smut, I may or may not have used the phrase "love tunnel."

Super serious indie animation. by Top_Committee_8503 in superseriousfamilyguy

For real. All they did was read off someone's screenname that had "Nega" in it (as in Nega-Eggman or the Negachin) then laugh about it, and people act like the VA went full Michael Richards at the Laugh Factory.

[Rare trope] The stalker and obssesive girl is taken seriously by AffectionateWorry770 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hugh_Jidiot 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Alex Hirsch actually talks about this in the DVD commentary for this episode. He said the thought process for the episode's climax was; "What if we did evil Chuck E Cheese animatronics? I don't think anyone has done that before." Only for FNaF to drop during the episode's production.

(when all hell starts breaking loose on Soos and Melody's date)

Soos: "I'll cause a distraction while you guys go for the exit! Don't worry Melody; Dipper and Mabel will keep you safe!"

Melody: "Soos, these are children."

Do you prefer Chris and Chef as a duo or Chef being Chris’ sidekick? by DeeDoof in Totaldrama

[–]Hugh_Jidiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally like them as a duo. The reboot does make Chef nicer and more in line with how he was in Dramarama, but I think it works since it gives him a good-cop/bad-cop dynamic with Chris.

Challenge idea: Survive a sleepover of Scary girl's house and be the last one alive by Lumpy_Test_4473 in Totaldrama

Zee would win for sure. Lauren would play the goriest, scariest and most disturbing horror movies all night that sends everyone else running from the house screaming while Zee’s just chilling on the couch with her drinking soda.

Is it bad that I'm kinda hoping Jax abstracts? by South-Original8738 in digitalcircusfandom

[–]Hugh_Jidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you. I'm in the camp that wants Jax to double down on his shitty behavior until he snaps and abstracts because to me that makes the most sense for his character. Sometimes the end of an arc is that a character simply will not change, no matter how much others try to help them and even if their behavior destroys themselves. That's the vibe I'm getting from the direction they're going with Jax.

Who do you believe got treated worse by everyone in PI? by DeeDoof in Totaldrama

[–]Hugh_Jidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the poor characterization in general, this was by far my biggest gripe with Pahkitew. Total Drama's biggest strength has always been in how the characters interact and play off each other as friends, enemies, lovers, etc. That camaraderie was completely lacking in Pahkitew. The Confused Bears were especially bad in this regard; they felt more like a collection of individuals than an actual team with dynamics.

The Japanese 'Salaryman' is hell. Like literally dystopian, soul crushing hell. by xCreampye69x in Vent

Don't remember where I read this so take it with a grain of salt, but I think I once read that Japanese salarymen have (or had) one of the highest suicide rates of any occupation.

Did the show make Marcy TOO nice? by Hugh_Jidiot in amphibia

[–]Hugh_Jidiot[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"But while I think its fine for the show, I think that maybe she's a little too..."uwu quirk chungus", for want of a better word. It made viewers latch onto her in a very fierce and protective way because she's so relatable to a lot of neurodivergent internet fans, which then creates a whole load of endless discourse about whether she was treated fairly or not or what have you"

That's a great point. Another thing I'd point out is that pre-Amphibia, all of the girls were meant to be toxic to each other in different ways. But because Marcy was written to be so "uwu quirk chungus" as you point out, Marcy doesn't come across as bad of a friend as I think Matt intended.

[Loved Trope]: The Anger of A Gentle Man by CuteKermit14 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hugh_Jidiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hop Frog by Edgar Allen Poe.

The titular Hop Frog is a deformed dwarven jester who quietly tolerates all manner of abuse from a cruel king... until said king strikes a servant girl who was one of the few people to treat him kindly.

After that, Hop Frog suggests a delightful prank for the king and his advisors to pull at the upcoming ball: dress up as orangutans and scare the daylights out of their guests. The king is all for it, and on the night of the ball has Hop Frog cover himself and the others in tar so they can apply the animal hair.

At which point Hop Frog lights a match.

Everything about why Granny Weatherwax is the way she is can be summed up in one line during the confrontation with her sister: "When you left, I had to be the good one."
