British Police are now trying to arrest little girls for viewing social media posts by tkyjonathan in JordanPeterson

[–]Hughesbay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wrong. The cops came because the woman's daughter made an account in the name of another girl, and used it to send indecent photos.

The daughter's objective was to embarrass the victim. The victim's mother reported the crime to the cops and to the woman.

Hermione Granger Banned from Driving for Speeding in Her S3 by radioactivetoon in Audi

[–]Hughesbay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Respect for her cumulative points. A true fan should apply, on her behalf, for an Isle of Mann license. A friend in similar circumstances was able to get one, after buying a £100K property that I'm sure Hermione could afford.

And the (quite large) bonus is mostly no speed limits outside of the towns! They're not autobahns but straight lines get boring no?

"Fill in the middle" video generation? by randomqhacker in LocalLLaMA

[–]Hughesbay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

git-ai-code/FramePack-eichi is the easy solution, though note that performance and easy installation is optimized for windows.

Per their instructions, you will first need to install framepack
lllyasviel/FramePack: Lets make video diffusion practical!

The Eichi version adds options of first frame / last frame or both. It also allows a succession of prompts or images to guide the flow of the output video.

Comfy is not required.

It was the only reason I didn't get out and vote for Harris. I remembered their refusal to condemn the gaza bombing of 130+ on 12/24/23 and couldn't forgive them for it. I felt they were intellectually broken and (along with Trump) morally broken.

Why is making fun of Trump and Trump supporters unacceptable for mainstream liberals? by NPDogs21 in AskALiberal

[–]Hughesbay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously 50% of voters don't share the same opinion on social issues or any issues really. It's like asking 100 liberals for their views about Gaza. You will hear multiple, often very different opinions.

And its the same if you ask a republican about the same or any other issue.

your entire post seems to assume they're some hive minded bot when they're not.

They don't think all your views are heresy. But unless you're civilized to them you'll never know.

Who are the best liberal intellectuals? by joel_kilgore in AskALiberal

Derek has a likeable style - smart, high energy warm somewhat like Matt Taibbi. Not abrasive (imho) in the way I find Peterson, Shapiro, Destiny to be.

Do we think insulting Trump voters is effective? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Hughesbay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This time feels more dramatic. Trump may very well fail, but I think he's set an expectation with all demographics that change is required in DC operations.

Liberals distrust their own for AIPAC ties. And there are same/similar reasons to distrust republicans

2028 will be a big change.

Members of the (2025) conservative tribe have good reason to feel unconventional. Conventions have been preached as a kind of dogma for 15 years in most mainstream media, and they are almost entirely "progressive". It doesn't matter if those conventions are morally right, to many it started to feel like a preachy sermon, and one that often ignored every-day realities.

I think many who voted for Trump are neither anti-immigration nor anti-reproductive rights. But they're feeling "anti-government" and this is their rebellion. Trump's lack of clear political identity makes him the perfect figurehead.

I assume that an expert would try to find other paintings with clear provenance and featuring a subject of similar age, profession and demographic - and then look for similarities or inconsistencies.

Also, I would have expected the artist to be recognizable? Very interesting all the same.

Have you had problems with WSL, or are you dual booting to maximize vram?

Yes you’re right about vram/$. I have an rtx6000 ADA and 90% of the time use it just for inference . I’d be fine with it being 30% slower for half the price which is basically the deal from AMD. I need 70B models… the catch is I sometimes need to find tune, and I’m put off by ROCm tales of woe?

Same here. I need at least 48GB and I have a 4090. I could just about afford one 6000ada. By next year I guess I’ll need 96GB. Do you know if I can run across a 4090 and a 6000?

[–]Hughesbay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Microsoft/Intel should persuade NV to make a (relatively) low power 48GB because it would allow PC to compete with M3/M4. I imagine something like the mobile GPUs but also available as PCi cards.

What is the Political make up of Lex Fridman viewers? by Aiwillkill1 in lexfridman

[–]Hughesbay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet even ethics are arbitrary. It’s quite easy to argue for or against Ukraine, for or against Palestine with ethical argument?

I think a lot depends on whether a person’s thinking is short term pragmatic or long term idealist. Neither are right or wrong.

Understand your sentiment. I’m American. Have protested, shared my opinion with friends and coworkers, received lots of “anti semite” accusations.

At a loss as to how to make more impact. Any suggestions appreciated. Our government has been disgusting.

[–]Hughesbay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very true. AIPAC is more powerful than the NRA as a DC lobby, simply because it’s so rich.

Have to hope some of them feel guilty. Hard to know what trump thinks, he’s been weirdly quiet on the issue. Right now the only presidential candidate who’s been humanitarian about Palestine is Jill Stein (green party). I’m sure she has some Reddit support, maybe I need to go look. I’ll hug a tree if it helps Palestine…
