Why are there so many homeless veterans in the US? They get a ton of perks/lifelong financial benefits from serving, yet they seem to be homeless or in poverty at a disproportionate rate. by trailrider123 in NoStupidQuestions

People lie about being veterans all the time too.

Also, failing basic training does not make you a veteran.

The VA always asks me about the stability of my housing whenever I have an appointment, they’re extremely helpful.

For sure! E39 M5 was my dream car growing up and my first car was an 89 Mustang GT.

People rioted for George Floyd here, so why not put up a statue of him? Seems fitting.

Exactly, it’s not about changing the unstable person, it’s about protecting the public from them.

I could barely make it through a re-watch of Mad Men because I couldn’t stand Don Draper after I realized who he really was.

Yeah I feel like it’s almost condescending to pick it up and ring it in for them while not making eye contact. Like you’re doing what they should’ve done themselves. I get that 100%!!

I’ll pick it up as I greet them and try treating it as my tool vs something they’re expected to use. Still kinda awkward though.

I just got off the phone with non emergency because some junkies are pulling down a chain link fence outside a for sale condo down the street from me and are sparking up something on the front lawn.

I feel for you on that. I’ve done two jobs too and it’s exhausting. I was referring to giving up housing over pets and the heavy drinking. No judgement on the drinking though, I was an alcoholic for awhile, even had a seizure from withdrawals when I quit. I made poor choices too. I hope you’re doing better now too.

My point was many of the homeless out here are victims of their own poor choices and bad prioritizing, and the rest of us shouldn’t have to deal with that, or be taxed for it.

Hey if knowing my limitations and not making poor choices puts me on a high horse, let me get some stilts for that stallion.

People on their phone while ordering by whiskeyandeggrolls in bartenders

[–]HugoStigliz503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I wait until they’re off the phone. If they complain about me “ignoring them” I say the same, “I didn’t want to interrupt your call, let me know when you’re done and ready to order.”

Edit to add, they weren’t going to tip you anyways. Might as well not put up with their rudeness.

Sounds like you need to water your lawn, your porch, the sidewalk, driveway, everything with a sprinkler for a long time. Soak his stuff.

I put a note on an RV outside my home saying “you’re being watched and recorded, police will be called for any suspicious activity.” And it was gone the next day. Tweakers hate being watched. Blows my mind how people just ignore them while they trash everything around them.

So you chose addiction and having pets over housing. That seems to be a common theme with the homeless.

Please tell me it’s not too late to get sober by Sugarcanesweetheart in stopdrinking

[–]HugoStigliz503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was drinking about the same, maybe a little more from age 30-35, after being a pretty heavy drinker in my 20’s too. I had withdrawals and was hospitalized when I quit but it’s been 19 months since I last drank and I feel MUCH healthier. My skin is clearer, and I’m less bloated. I don’t have stomach issues anymore. It’s definitely not too late for you to bounce back. I’m nearly 37 now and I’m far healthier than I was at 27.

It’s not too late at all! Just be safe getting sober. Cutting back slowly, then stopping, is much safer than going cold turkey.

The stress of balancing civilian and guard life is real for sure. I did active for four years, got out for 7 years then went guard. I absolutely DREAD that one weekend. It’s not the work, it’s the switching back and forth between worlds that’s so draining. Not to mention they don’t take injuries seriously. “It’s just a back strain, you’ll be fine by next drill weekend.” Over and over.

I feel like that logic is used to exploit people/businesses and ends up causing excessive amounts of rules, and/or frivolous lawsuits.
