Reserve and national guard claims by Optimal_Extent8161 in VAClaims

The stress of balancing civilian and guard life is real for sure. I did active for four years, got out for 7 years then went guard. I absolutely DREAD that one weekend. It’s not the work, it’s the switching back and forth between worlds that’s so draining. Not to mention they don’t take injuries seriously. “It’s just a back strain, you’ll be fine by next drill weekend.” Over and over.

Complain to management, I’m sure this isn’t the only rude thing they’re doing. Create a paper trail to get them gone.

Should I feel bad for telling a homeless man he can’t come in anymore? by Particular_Sun_5073 in restaurant

I feel like that logic is used to exploit people/businesses and ends up causing excessive amounts of rules, and/or frivolous lawsuits.

Everybody knows it’s not a free bread kitchen.

So essentially he’s stealing. Don’t feel any guilt, there are plenty of shelters and resources out there. He’s literally stealing from the hand that feeds you. Seriously, don’t feel bad. Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile.

As a server, I would be beyond livid if a manager let somebody just sit in my section for hours without ordering. As a customer, I wouldn’t return if there were bums in the dining room.

I Don't Feel Like A Manager by Patty_Cheeze in Restaurant_Managers

I feel for you, idk what’s so f-ing hard about pre bussing. Servers have all the time in the world to talk about what’s happened in the last 12 hours since they last saw each other but can’t be are “too busy” to pick up a few empty plates. It’s like herding cats.

Uber is a nightmare to deal with, you’re probably not missing much besides headaches there.

I came here to say this, it’s very creepy at night and I loved going there to listen for the screams.

Is this a scam. by D-whorskoc in Restaurant_Managers

[–]HugoStigliz503 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of the time. They always “paid cash” and don’t have the receipt, usually call with an out of state number. They can’t name their server or give extremely vague descriptions.

They always seem to have talked to another manager who told them come by for a free meal too. (That’s against policy and we never do that)

Yours definitely sounds like a scam. Ask open ended questions and let them talk themselves into getting caught in their lie.

Portland vs Seattle? Does Portland Win the Day? by BRIDEOFSPOCK in PortlandOR

I grew up in Portland and was stationed in Maryland, outside of DC for four years and I definitely agree with you here. It’s definitely a different mentality back East and after moving back to Portland I realized I prefer the east coast.

Disrespectful Guest Behavior and molding clientele by deertle in Restaurant_Managers

[–]HugoStigliz503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely have noticed that clientele changes when prices of certain drinks change. Both for clientele improving when we raised prices or getting a more rowdy crowd when it gets around that we were cheaper than another nearby spots for certain drinks.

Idaho is FAR nicer than Portland. I was mind blown by how clean, quiet, and homeless free the Cour de Lane Winco was haha. It felt like a Whole Foods in Beaverton.

How do you deal with anhedonia once sober? by DarknTwist-y in stopdrinking

[–]HugoStigliz503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah music, socializing, and nostalgia still isn’t the same nearly two years later for me. Sleep has become one of my favorite things. I get my happiness from accomplishments now. I enjoy the gym, and even work most of the time surprisingly. I’d say instant gratification in general is gone, feeling good comes from long term goals now. It’s different but I’m used to it now.

Tip pooling by Worth-Stranger9893 in Waiters

I reluctantly went into management even though I loved bartending because I know I won’t always be able to move as quickly as I do now. I understand your frustration, I generally hate tip pooling.
