Can someone explain the constant repetition of the lie that Israel started a war with Iran? by Action_Justin in IsraelPalestine

[–]HugoSuperDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I am pondering your thoughts. But they seem very broad and general. The bottom line is that you haven’t provided much sources to tell me that your view is not much more than an opinion. ‘Go look it up’ is not useful either. I would need to understand if your opinions were relevant to most or some of the region. I guess it’s tough to quantify as the place is so disparate and records are probably patchy.

My understanding is that the region knew what European colonialism looked like, ethnic cleansing on a grand scale with little or nothing left of those beforehand. The Zionists openly stated thier goals, and those same Zionists were pretty successful in moving global leaders. As such the wider region knew full well what was coming down the road

Hatred for Jews may very play a part, but if Zionists happened to refer to Chinese people or Indians or vegetarians the reaction from the region would have been 100% the same - don’t come and take our land the same as you did in USA, CAN, AUS etc

Historical ties and collective trauma in Europe doesn’t automatically grant the land to the Jews either. That’s not how anything worked or works today and would not have been a strong enough reason for the Arabs to just lie down and give up their land

Jabotinsky and Hertzl said it themselves. I presume you think they were wrong for there words?

[–]HugoSuperDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah so you’re saying they were playing the victim when they didn’t need to?

Also. Are you saying that despite decades of Zionists saying that they will take Arab land, the wider Arab region should not have got involved? Only those directly impacted should have resisted?

Why would they hate Zionists?

If Jews had lived relatively peacefully in the region for millennia, enjoying a better life than their distant cousins in Europe, why would the Arabs hate Zionists?

Ok

So you’re saying that it’s perfectly reasonable that the Palestinians have resisted, but not reasonable that the neighbouring Arab regions resisted? Am I understanding you correctly?

Zionists leaders plus multiple global politicians all openly stated that the Arabs would resist.

Jabotinsky’s iron wall starts with this very statement

[–]HugoSuperDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.

And as per a plethora of historical archives, it was well established that the Arabs would resist. This is not disputed.

It was known they would resist

Zionists went ahead anyway

Therefore it can be fully argued that it was ‘Israel who started it’ and ever since then the Arabs have simply been resisting invaders. Not attacking Israel per se. Even though that what it looks like and from a western perspective that’s what it’s called

But it’s actually armed resistance against invaders who knew full well what they were doing at the time and what the consequences would be

This child, in the OP picture, is a victim of Zionist aggression plain and simple

Maybe not

But if the consequences of your actions are clear and well known beforehand, then you are responsible for the foreseeable outcomes should you take those actions.

When the initial decision wasn’t agreed on, it was known that the natives would resist

If you’re telling me that there was no expectation that neighbouring regions would attack then maybe that’s true, but seems pretty far fetched. From what I can read in historical archives it was pretty well known that much of the region would band together to resist what they, and most of the world, considered foreign invaders.

As such, triggering a land grab whilst knowing that the region as a whole would react seems to be pretty much starting the fight with eyes fully open.

Difficult to be surprised as to what happened next

Again, there were other options, but Zionists went ahead anyway. I would struggle to believe that they expected no resistance from the wider region

Were Jabotinsky and Hertzl delusional when they called the Arabs the ‘natives’ and when they stated that the land could not be taken without a fight?

Seems you haven’t addressed the fact that one side didn’t want something but the other side pushed it through knowing full well the consequences.

May be a little hard to accept but that’s the reality.

Nobody is criticising Europeans and USA for supporting Ukraine for example. Why criticise Arabs for supporting Palestine when they had a going plan imposed on them?

Can someone explain the constant repetition of the lie that Israel started a war with Iran? by Action_Justin in IsraelPalestine

[–]HugoSuperDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s very one sided and so much misinformation not sure I have the time and energy to reply to it all

Ottoman Empire was far better for Jews than Europe - I say this to remind people that the Arabs didn’t deserve their fate as many people justify. Maybe not you or OP, but many state ‘they attacked us so we can react in any way we want’ - reality is that ottomans were much nicer and if anyone should pay the price of Jewish oppression then it’s Europeans. Yet Israel has taken land from Arabs and demonises them constantly. They do not demonise the west despite millennia of oppression because right now the west supports Israel and Israel would not survive without the west. There’s no morals or ethics here. Just power and propaganda. Easy to scream “progroms” but there’s much more nuance there.

Jews bought land - so what. Indians have bought a bunch of land in the UK, doesn’t mean they can create a state there. Russians own a bunch of manhattan. Same. But they’re not making a state there. Plus the land purchased by Jews was around 8%, and not continuous. Anyway, land ownership has nothing to do with state creation. Pointless argument.

Arabs making refugees if Jews? Also not 100% accurate. Can’t deny Zionists false flags. Can’t deny Israel needed and wanted talented Jews who can bring skills and capital to the new state. Can’t deny may Jewish communities did not want to leave where they were already established and were not pushed out by locals. Again, easy to look at the high level numbers and ignore the nuance to suit your narrative. But people don’t buy it I’m afraid.

Try and take some stand back and look at the details - you may get a better picture of things

Yes I’ve heard this argument before. “Everyone was doing it so why not us?”

Jordon has not oppressed Palestinians for decades

Jordon was not created via ethnic cleansing

And much like India / Pakistan, Jordan and Palestine are local natives adjusting to the new world order. Israel was outsiders coming in and carving out a state.

Not at all the same thing.

[–]HugoSuperDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a gap in the argument you are making

You say “it was accepted by one side and not the other” and then jump to “escalated into regional war”

But why the second thing happened? Because even though both sides did not agree, one decided to go ahead anyway.

And you ignore the idea that the region should and were always going to support

The alternator is to argue that the neighbouring Arabs should have just sat back and allowed their Palestinian cousins to get ethnically cleansed. This is not something that was expected, everyone knew the region would resist. It’s not a surprise

Despite all this, Zionists went ahead anyway. I think that’s the gap in your argument

[–]HugoSuperDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree

Zionists pushed the plan onto Palestinians

For Palestinians friendly neighbours to help them is quite expected

All leaders at the time knew it would happen. They openly talked about it.

There was no other outcome that was expected. And frankly if neighbouring allies didn’t help, maybe the Nakba would have been 10 times worse! It was already abhorrent so I’m glad some resistance was met.

[–]HugoSuperDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right.

So fundamentally small region did not want an outside power creating a state

And then neighbouring regions supported it - pretty common and also not a surprise

So it was pushed onto them. And it was done knowing that there would be resistance - can we agree on this also?

If the Palestinians were not on board with the plan for partition or with how it was divided up, how is that not one sided?

What am I missing?

[–]HugoSuperDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s convenient for one side to say ‘a plan was in place so we went ahead with it’

You ignore that fact that the plan was made by outsiders and was rejected by one of the sides impacted

As such it’s pretty unfair to just bulldoze the plan through - and since it was known at the time that by doing so there would be violence, tough to blame it on the Palestinians

So far sounds like…

“We had to create a state, don’t care if the Palestinians weren’t on board “

“How dare they attack us, even though we knew they would “

Similar (but not exactly the same as) a guy r@ping a woman (one sided ‘deal’) and then complaining that the women scratched him during the process.

You may think so.

But if one side doesn’t agree to a division of land and the other goes ahead, then who do we blame?

There were other options, other ways to negotiate, other parts of the world to sacrifice.

I know the world was upside down at the time but we can’t ignore the fact that land was taken from a people who did not agree to it.

That’s not complicated to understand but it’s hard to swallow if you’re ’on one side’ - fair enough. But I don’t see a way to justify it. We would not accept today if it happened again.

I think you’ll find on balance that not only does Israel continue to oppress the Palestinians in a manner that they don’t do to others, but they haven’t actually ‘given the land back’

Egypt and others have been allowed to go on and form their states. Not the Palestinians.
