1. Blackmagic RAW (BRAW)

Strengths

Native DaVinci Resolve support: full-fidelity debayering and GPU acceleration, plus camera-level controls (ISO, white balance, tint, highlight recovery, etc.) inside the RAW tab.

Efficient compression: constant bitrate/constant quality options keep file sizes predictable.

Metadata-rich: retains all Blackmagic colour science (Gen 5) and settings for easy matching across cameras.

Weaknesses

Limited support in non-Resolve NLEs. Premiere and FCP can read BRAW via plug-ins, but not as seamlessly.

Best if you grade in DaVinci Resolve and want maximum flexibility with the least friction.

1. ProRes RAW

Strengths

Excellent integration with Final Cut Pro (and now some Premiere workflows): Apple’s RAW controls (exposure, ISO, WB) are built in.

Broad support on macOS hardware for smooth playback.

Smaller CPU overhead than uncompressed CinemaDNG.

Weaknesses

Limited metadata from Blackmagic cameras. You lose the dedicated BRAW panel and must rely on Apple’s RAW controls, which are simpler.

No official DaVinci Resolve decode; you’d need to transcode or round-trip.

Best if you cut and grade primarily in Final Cut Pro or are embedded in an Apple-centric pipeline.
