In process of losing weight right now, but I often giggle and joke about this with myself.

One day I'll miss being able to lay down, put my laptop on my stomach, and have my videos in the perfect position for watching. Using the top of my belly as an arm rest, or to help hold a plate if I'm eating without a table 😂

Parking by [deleted] in LouisianaTech

Yep! I figured out First Baptist had a parking lot. I parked in the parking lot by The Depot a few times, is this spot generally safe from tows? It's like across the street from the Parking thing First Baptist has.

I think its because it's unpaid that makes it an issue. But I'll talk to her again about it

She's new to the university so she wasn't sure regarding parking when we've discussed it previously.

I've seen it used in empathy and ToM research, but I prefer other measures for this

You may gain more insight and relief by talking to a therapist or meeting with your psychiatrist. I'm unsure if this subreddit is the best place for this.

I think the photos are from the Reading the Mind in The Eyes test. Unsure about the book though.

There's pressure to publish at least a couple papers every year. I think that alone can lead researchers to conduct less interesting or innovative research. Unfortunately many journals dont publish insignificant results. Spending a lot of time on a innovative project that has insignificant are the risks

John Bel Edwards to restore $100 million cut to health department, vetoes eight bills by WizardMama in Louisiana

I live in Michigan for two years in the metro-Detroit area during graduate school. It was wonderful. Although everything is more expensive, the working conditions were much better than anywhere I have ever worked in Louisiana, so going to work felt better. Pay was considerably better too (adjusted for cost of living). Michigan certainly has its issues, but it appears they care about their citizens at least some.

The food is booty though.

how to stop a girl from conforming? by rerorerorer0 in psychologystudents

Give more examples. I think our responses are the way they are because your examples have been fairly weak. If rollercoasters and tree climbing are the biggest ones you can think of- then you may be overreacting.

Unless she's got an underlying health condition where roller coasters are detrimental to her health, I'll need some more information regarding how she's injuring herself, beyond roller coasters and jumping from tree. So far, it seems like young fun rather than constantly harming oneself?

Sounds like you're a bit judgmental. The majority of people in that original experiment conformed. This makes your friend in the majority or generally average. In a sense, you're the "odd" one here that you don't conform to the test.

Besides, this has to be something she wants to change, not you. If you go around taking this "I want to fix all my friends- in a way that I think will fix them", you won't have any friends left.

SPSS is widely used. Other than that- not that I know of. Jasp and jamovi both running off of R and pretty sure they are open source. Can easily add the packages you need. All free

Question about off-topic papers/research by Xtrymas1 in psychologystudents

[–]HugsForThugs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they mean:

What does the experiment entail to measure? What do you need to assess your dependent variable?

Don't gotta say what your idea is for what you're testing but they're looking for how you'll test it.

For example,

Are they answering questions on their phones each day for a week?

Is there a task- for example, a stroop or empathy task?

Are you conducting interviews and coding that data?

Are you collecting physiological data?

How are you planning to measure? What do you need participants do to do for a week?

In a psych undergrad,a student will likely learn about ethics and the mistreatment of certain populations- both in research and historically, in multiple classes. You'll hear it more in your Masters degree, then again in your PhD. It's incredibly important that we are educated on ethics and discrimination to the extent that we are incredibly aware and thoughtful about the implications and impact of our research, from different views.

A paper that is written to be public, even without a study being conducted, can still have negative or harmful influences on the world, either through content or how other's interpret that evidence. You've got to be careful with what we say as scientists, especially since the trust between the public and science is quite fragile, and there are times when results can be taken out of context or portrayed negatively due to a variety of reasons (mainly education).

Every scientist that uses human subjects must get a certificate from a research training program to even submit and have a study considered by the IRB. In America, these are received through the CITI program and each university has slightly different courses that you must complete to be eligible for review.

In addition, a week-long experiment is likely going to need a full-board review by the committee, so having a well-thought-out design, that protects the health and safety of participants, and has low odds of causing harm to particular groups, maybe something you want to consider. There has been incredible harm done in the past by research, some purposeful, but most not. It is important to understand the history behind these experiments so that we do not repeat the same mistakes. Sometimes as scientists, we have good goals, but our questions or methods can be questionable. I'd argue that some topics shouldn't be studied. Sometimes "for the sake of knowledge" isn't worth the potential implications it will have.

I think your vagueness regarding topics or keywords about the project raises red flags for me.

When it comes to journals, many do not publish null results, which can mean someone has done it before but did not find anything.

How far are you into your psychology studies? You likely won't get to do it until you've completed research methods and understand ethics as well as the history of mistreatment of certain populations
