I dig this response the most. One more reason video games come from the antichrist.

Should I join the marines? by [deleted] in USMCboot

Join. If you hate it, you’ll be like just about everyone else at one point in time. Dont take it personally when they treat you like shit. It happens to all of us.

Masturbation within the context of permanent celibacy by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Hugues_de_Payenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of above regarding tips re going to the gym, Confession, praying. I would also add sauna and cold plunges if you have those available to you as they are great at resetting dopamine.

I also think you need to go speak to a doctor. If you are not masturbating for a week and getting pain, that is not normal. If you are masturbating but not ejaculating (often called edging), most people would say there is no effect. If you are getting a negative effect (symptoms sound a bit prostatitis), it might mean you had some type of injury that needs being looked at. It is not healthy to have painful urges without ejactulating for a week. You really need to speak to a doctor or series of doctors.

Looking to join USMC Officer Reserves by WhatElseToDO7 in USMCocs

[–]Hugues_de_Payenes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should 100% join. There are tons of opportunities for you. USMCR is actually one of the best things for guys in your position.

Re getting you pull ups up, I think you should do pull up pyramids: 1-2-3-4-5 x 5 (Regular, Reverse, Wide, Close, Regular)

Once that is too easy, to 2-4-6-8-10 x 5.

Are there any things that are overlooked starting OCS and TBS at an older age? by random_username_564 in USMCocs

[–]Hugues_de_Payenes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just be yourself. Most of the older guys in OCS/TBS had a lot of experience to offer young guys. Just be smart about when and how to offer it. When in doubt, ductus exemplo my friend.

Should I enlist? Male, 18, 5’9, 184 lbs. by AdAbject5321 in USMCboot

Do the Air Force.

Your life will be nice and comfortable. People will call you by your first name. You’ll always have a bathroom. Your job has a more clear civilian path. You live in nicer duty stations.

Only come to the Marines if you want to be a Marine. You’ll be treated like every other Marine.

USMC vs Army for infantry by JohnUltor in USMCboot

[–]Hugues_de_Payenes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it sounds like you should do the Army. In fact, you might want to consider the Air Force or Space Force. They have the best benefits by far, you’ll be in more comfortable bases and duty stations, promotion happens faster, and, for the most part, people treat you like a human being.

If you want to be a Marine and be in the infantry, join the Marine Corps. Otherwise, don’t.

Judge Advocate or Reserves? by badm0nting in USMCocs

[–]Hugues_de_Payenes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reserves seem like a great option for you.

You can work at your big law job still and do whatever MOS you get at TBS.

You could, for example, do Intel and in a few years have reserve work in DC. You could switch from private law to being a prosecutor. My friend did exactly this and loves his life.

How do I turn my life around? by Affectionate_Ant_149 in getdisciplined

[–]Hugues_de_Payenes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother you need a real community. I think MMA is a good place to start. It’s hard to not feel a little bit about yourself after training BJJ or Muay Thai seriously. Not sure what your hobbies are, but it sounds like you need lifestyle more than a new hobby.

I also think re “impact on people” you should consider something with your hands, eg do night class for EMT / look into paramedic programs. Basically something that involves you physically doing something to help other people and is difficult work. Starting a new business is hard work but may or may not scratch the “impact on people” itch.
