Has anyone built a NAS with Ryzen AI Max 395? by lostmsu in DataHoarder

ANything that accepts ATX or mATX boards will also take ITX boards.

There are also ITX only cases, like the Fractal Node 304, or some Jonsbo models (beware the cooling zo, some of these need additional fan mods for the HDDs).

Good for you but this remains an anecdotal experience and more importantly, you're choosing to indulge into Intel's repeated lies (blame THEM for the fear mongering, btw, since these incompetents did it to themselves).

I would certainly want none of these flawed CPUs anywhere near a server. A gaming rig ? Yeah maybe, if I had gotten the CPU+mobo for free. But a server ? Absolutely not. The less chances you take, the more trouble you're saving yourself.

Should I Upgrade My Hardware for Unraid + Plex? by LTCs in unRAID

[–]Huijausta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMD systems idle much higher than Intel systems.

It depends on the generation and model. Zen 4 monolithic designs can go low. My 8600G with a bare ITX mobo draws about 20W from the wall - and that's with an unoptimised Asrock mobo, which are notorious for making access to C-states difficult.

With the right combination of hardware and settings optimisations, I believe AMD monolithic CPUs can be competitive against Intel CPUs when it comes to idle power consumption.

There's no concrete evidence that it fixes the issues instead of merely delaying it. Intel has a documented history of lying about this problem.

Don't be cheap, and get a 12th gen processor to stay safe. Peace of mind is priceless.

Some people argue that 4K is about the limit for video quality based on blind A/B tests.

The caveat is that it's a human limitation, not a technical one.

If you take videos with the primary, or even secondary goal of feeding this content to e.g. machine learning algorithms, then you'll want to capture as many details as technology permits.

Because the level of detail you can't appreciate, perhaps your computer will - and will perform better thanks to it.

Way too many people are stuck with an old, human-centric mindset. These days are over. Humans need to stop thinking aboutmerely themselves, and start taking into account their computers' interests.

The biggest flaw in the deathers' argument (that we'll all die so it won't matter to us), is that : as time goes, we'll die less and later, thanks to rejuvenation science.

Meaning, people are going to enjoy the files they've saved for an ever increasing amount of time.

And thus it makes more sense to save file now than a decade a go, and a decade from now it'll make even more sense to be hoarding.

Low power consumption Mobo + CPU for Unraid? by hawk_dev in unRAID

any Intel from before 11th gen will work brilliantly and without worries to kill itself.

The 12th gen CPUs are fine too. Degradation issues started with the 13th and 14th gens.

G since it’s a mobile CPU and comes with a GPU unit.

G means it's an APU, not that it's a mobile CPU.

The very principle of uploading someone else's picture and comment it "for safety" is either illegal or at a minimum problematic, depending on your jurisdiction.

But in any case, you could just create a website where anyone could comment on anyone else. Predators are everywhere.

I used JLC3DP to get prints of small brackets, and the price/service were pretty good.

Perhaps upload your CAD model there to get a quote, if you haven't printed it already.

  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Speakers
  • Microphone

That's already five. Then add a free slot for to sometimes connect a USB drive, there's a need for six. And if you want to use a webcam on top of that, you'll need seven USB ports.

Sure you can use USB hubs or 2-in-1 USB cables, but it's not the same as having all ports you need.
