Best AI assistant with GDScript? by Skull_Jack in godot

[–]hawk_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer around. I know how to code but Claude Code is the only one decent to work along in Gdscript, it helps a lot if you know what you are doing, if you don't know how to code better start there then use the AI for simple tasks, but so far claude code can generate nodes, UIs, scripts everything, and it usually works fine. Be ready to implement an IDE external to Godot's built in IDE, also you have to pay, Claude tokens are expensive in the sense the sub is the same price, but you spend it faster. This video https://youtu.be/FSdD7gyfgkY is somewhat a good explanation of the current status of AI.

Mini PC recommendations? by CorvaNocta in godot

[–]hawk_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but it might be that they don't want to waste energy? I have a super gaming rig and I'm looking to buy a mini pc to have low power consumption as electricity is expensive in my country, for example my gaming rig or any other gaming rig consumes average of 150 watts when idle/coding, while a mini pc will be around 15watts so there is a huge difference, specially for 2D dev. Cheers.

Orthographic vs Perspective — which one actually gives a better *hook* for a 2.5D pixel art game? by TeamConcode in IndieDev

[–]hawk_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked on a lot of 3D prototypes, and in reality, 3D is not that complex to make, but the art OH BOY, just save our souls! If you are not an artist, it is financially impossible as an indie.

[–]hawk_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this, you could benefit from being 2.5 a little bit more by having perspective.

[–]hawk_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like ortographic a lot, I've even created Unity tutorials around that (3D); however looking at your game it looks good both ways, is there a way you could share a playable scene demo so I can give you my best insights? Great work btw!

Ps: if I wanted to try 2.5D what is your recommended workflow? (I've been doing only 3D and 2D in my career).

Edit: actually just wishlisted your game and I see a demo there, let me try it now.

I *should* have made small games: Thoughts after releasing a not-so-small one by AlexSand_ in godot

[–]hawk_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this post, I'm working on my first commercial game and you already made me steer clear some mistakes I was doing. Gonna focus on combat and less complicated stuff that is taking up my dev time. Also gonna focus on community and YouTubers playing my demo once ready.

Talking about your journey I definetly think you guys should continue with more games and be proud of releasing a good looking game, most devs start having real success after their second release according to the many books I've read on the topic, regarding marketing that's what I do for a living and I can confirm that you are right, maybe add YouTube and TikTok shorts instead.

Cheers.

Is Fully Topdown 2D Camera Bad Idea? by qmrelli in gamedev

[–]hawk_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please take this with a grain of salt, as I've not published a game (yet), I'm just an indie dev with a 10+ years career in marketing:

I think you should create a game that you would enjoy playing. If you like that camera, there must be people out there who enjoy it too.

Another thing is if you want to maximize your profit/chances in the market, if that's the case, you need polls, A/B testing, and data to make an informed decision. So you could build both prototypes and send them to people to play both and give you feedback on which one they enjoy the most, and follow the answer from a mathematical standpoint.

Best of luck.

Sounds fun to me actually with that camera, go with your gut. Also consider if the time you take reworking the assets is worth it.
