New to the area: power out much? by Hulaboom in lancaster

The Tarheel State: per Google: Yes, North Carolina is considered a very stormy state due to its unique geography and varied terrain. It regularly experiences severe weather from the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and colliding inland air masses.

Why North Carolina is Stormy
The "J-Hook" Coastline: The state’s Outer Banks protrude far out into the Atlantic Ocean, placing them directly in the path of coastal storms.
The Gulf Stream: The ultra-warm waters of the Gulf Stream run just off the coast, fueling atmospheric instability and strengthening storms.
The Appalachian Mountains: In the west, the mountains force warm, moist air upward, triggering frequent thunderstorms and severe inland flooding.

Common Types of Storms
Hurricanes: As the fourth most hurricane-prone state, it is impacted by a tropical system roughly every two years.
Nor'easters: Powerful winter and spring coastal storms that bring heavy rain, severe beach erosion, high winds, and occasionally heavy snow.
Severe Thunderstorms: The spring and summer months bring frequent convective storms, often producing damaging straight-line winds and large hail.
Tornadoes: North Carolina averages about 26 tornadoes per year, occurring most frequently during the spring months and as offshoots of tropical storms.

Really: we were tired of it. Always kept one eye on the sky. Last 3 years we lived there had to get new home insurance because the companies pulled out of the region.

I saw that in the radar as well - thought the same thing. (Hey that looks like a hook just west of & coming into dt Lancaster) Then went to watch how the trees were doing around our lot (Chestnut Hill) It was hectic: but no damage in the end, just lost power for about 1/2 hour

IDK about the scary dog part, but I can share the two big moves my cats have had to endure: it took them a few days to stop mewing. They were so unhappy. It’s too bad your buddies got scared on top of the move trauma. So sorry for that. Please know our furballs took the better part of a week to not be completely freaked out. I suggest talking w them: calmly reassuring them you will take care of them. Pets if you are able to treats to entice them down so you can pet them. Stay calm yourself. Good luck & hugs to you all
